Title: Friday 13th and things you shouldn't do... Post by paulpsomiadis on 13.11.09 at 14:29:00
So it's "that" day again...and it's already kicked me in the A$$...
I got a new HDD for my X360 yesterday and decided to Low Level format the thing, here's how my PC was setup... Western Digital WD2000JD-00G [200GB - onboard SATA1] Seagate ST96812AS [60GB - onboard SATA1] Western Digital AD2500KS-00MJB0 [250GB - onboard SATA2] And the new drive... Western Digital WD2500BEAS-00URT0 [250GB PCI SATA1 card] Now explain THIS! I selected the new drive in "Microscope Diagnostic Suite" (a VERY good LLF Live-CD utility) and it displayed the firmware info of the new drive (remember it's connected to a PCI card - NOT THE ONBOARD SATA IN ANY WAY!!!) And then I leave the LLF to complete overnight... BUT (cue sinister music..) when I get up in the morning... My Western Digital AD2500KS-00MJB0 drive that is connected to the ONBOARD SATA 2 had ALSO been LLF (yes, that means I lost 250GB of data...and I have no recent backup...AAARGH!!!) How this was possible, I don't know... If anyone has any ideas how it might have happened - I'm open to your thoughts... BTW - getting the data back is impossible, so don't bother recommending anything...I've decided to reconstruct it all from a 2 year old backup...and just "fill in" the gaps... UGH! |

Man, never let any other HDD connected when you do such things. Everytime I install an operating system for test (Linux or something) or when I want to low format an HDD - I always let in system only one HDD, the others are unplugged.

In hindsight, this is what I normally do...but as they say...
"SH!T happens..." (especially when you don't stop to think) I might use it as an excuse to finally migrate to Windows 7 though... Also to get the new mainboard I've been looking at that has Hybrid Crossfire... |
