Title: how tell model of 3DFX card?
Post by bruiser on 22.01.03 at 19:45:17
I inherited a computer from a relative that has a 3DFX video card but no drivers, no CD.  There are no drivers loaded for the card.  How can I tell what model it is?  Here are some numbers from card:
V445332
0872001B00F27740100000AV3W9F
210-0403-001
N2544
ICT 22B, FT211
Can I run a generic driver for any 3DFX card?  If so, which one?  It has a black heatsink with a fan on the chip.  Any Suggestions?

Can you tell me what a memory chipset looks like?

It has 4 chipsets, 3 say Samsung 040, 1 says Samsung 037, all four say K4S643232C-TC55.

No TV out and it is a PCI card.

Hmm...

Apparently, the Samsung K4S643232C-TC60 Memory variant clocks upto 166MHz, whereas the -TC55 should reach the vicinity of ~183MHz Memory speeds.

The number V445332 leads to the following Page :
http://www.eboodle.com/,mpoi__cat_id--405,prod_id--5100443,rf--wgg.html

There, it would be a Voodoo4 4500 PCI, although the Memory of 5.5ns are quite rare, and possibly indicate a VSA-101 Daytona Chip/Card, that could be running at 183MHz default.

Same here :
http://www.pricingnetwork.com/prod_0_2476_C_2272_Voodoo4_.htm

As far as I know, 5.5ns was about the fastest Memory ever built onto any 3dfx Card, so you might have a very rare, and valuable collector's Item at your hands.

I would recommend trying to install the 3dfx Reference Driver for Voodoo4/5. Those (usually) even run on a Voodoo3, or a Velocity, in case I'm in error.

Once 3dfx Tools are installed, you will get precise info what Card Type, Memory, and Speed you are running there.

Theoretically, you could also download only the separate 3dfx Tools Installer from the Tools Section of the Archive. Those installed, it might already give the needed Info Page in the Advanced Display Properties Tab :)

Thanx so much for info!!  Okay, which file on the download page for the voodoo 4/5 do I want?  Do I want the one that says "3dfx Voodoo4/5 V1.04.00"?  Thanx again!

You will see small black rectangles on the board (4 or 8 ), all identical
If you have 4 memory chipsets : 2 above the fan and 2 on its right
If you have 8 memory chipsets : 4 above the fan and 4 on its right

Perhaps you can read Toshiba or Hyundai on these rectangles

If your card is a V4 4500, you can see 4 full rectangles (with the memory chipsets) and 4 empty  rectangles

Anybody who has more info about this processor?
