I'm looking for 8 x 16MB tsop86 chips for getting my 5500 modded to 128mb, prefferably faster then -6, not not mandatory.

10 would be perfect, 2 spare.

I wouldn't be doing the mod myself, as I don't have the tools for it. I would ask someone here.

You might have more luck buying those black pcb, Asus V7100 Pro 64MiB cards and using those RAM chips.

i do have an Asus V7100Pro 64mb here...but it's 8 x 8mb, 4 RAM chips on each side of the PCB.

You're right, my bad. Haven't had a look at those cards in a while. They're Voodoo4 donor cards, not Voodoo5.

doesn't really matter anyways anymore, I decided quite some time ago that I won't be doing the mod anyways, too expensive.
for a fraction of that price, I now have 4 x 2.4Ghz opteron with 2GB ram (more to come) and the voodoo5.

I think in regards to performance increase, overclocking the 5500 with the new 4ns ram and 128MB to let's say 200Mhz (which it probably wouldn't make due to 220 chips) would about as much FPS as I will now by going from dual XP3000's with 1GB ram to 2 x Opteron 280 with more and faster ram.

I have benched at stock speed and will see what the difference is soon enough :)

well about overclocking...can you easily overclock with the stock coolers without damaging the card?

As someone suggested before, i did used 2 little chipset heatsinks on the back of each GPU, with some thermal paste, on those little things i forgot how they're called

I don't plan on overclocking the card that much, maybe to 175Mhz, most of the extra power will come from the opterons :)

and all games I play on it will run smoothly anyways, so...no real need for overclocking the card
