Nice!...
You could get yourself an Orchid or even better a Canopus V1
It would make an even nicer picture

(I once put a V1, V2, rush, V3, V4 and V5 5.5K in the same board just for sights :P )

--edit--

Well I see you have one of these  :D
make a few shots with the canopus it'll look great

What motherboard/CPU do you use for your 6K?

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by exxe on 03.09.05 at 19:40:20

Epox 8K5A2+ (2x IDE- RAID, LAN, sound, 6x PCI, 3x DDR1)
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton (166MHz FSB)

on Epox 8K5Axx you can use up to 3000+
officiall it can only FSB 133 but it works perfect with 166MHz @ 66MHz AGP

looks awesome :) exxe, I don't think they would work nicely togeather though, a Voodoo5 6000 as pimary VGA and a Voodoo Graphics as secondary, wouldn't the 3dfx drivers collide with each other?

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by exxe on 03.09.05 at 19:57:40
i donīt test it. and i donīt wont to test it

i have only make some nice images from Voodoo1 and Voodoo5 6000 on one mainboard ;D

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 03.09.05 at 20:50:39
yeah would look nice with a Rampage and a Voodoo1 :) also  ;D

or some other ideas like:

you have a Mobo with 5 to 6 PCI slots and 1 AGP right :)

AGP : Voodoo5 5000/6000/ Specter 1000 [if ya have one of these  otherwise 5500]

PCI 1:3Dfx Voodoo Graphics
PCI 2:3Dfx Voodoo II
PCI 3:3Dfx Voodoo Rush
PCI 4:3Dfx Voodoo Banshee
PCI 5:3dfx Voodoo3
PCI 6:3dfx Voodoo4/5 PCI

that as a 3Dfx/3dfx art shout would be nice also :)

give me a Rampage

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 03.09.05 at 21:30:16
yeah okay Gary but I meant like what exxe did, 3dfx art in a PC :)

so you could do:

AGP: Specter 1000 AGP/ Voodoo5 6000 AGP

PCI 1:3Dfx Voodoo Graphics PCI
PCI 2:3Dfx Voodoo Rush PCI
PCI 3:3Dfx Voodoo II/Banshee PCI
PCI 4:3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000/3000 PCI
PCI 5:3dfx Voodoo4 4200/4500 PCI
PCI 6:3dfx Voodoo5 5000/5500 PCI

all of those on one pic would be cool

if your mobo has only 5 PCI slots, you could just do anoth mix like:

AGP: Specter 1000 AGP/ Voodoo5 6000 AGP

PCI 1:3Dfx Voodoo Graphics/Rush PCI
PCI 2:3Dfx Voodoo II/Banshee PCI
PCI 4:3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000/3000 PCI
PCI 5:3dfx Voodoo4 4200/4500 PCI
PCI 6:3dfx Voodoo5 5000/5500 PCI

Gary,

Is that the same mainboard you are using? I thought it supported 166MHz  (offically that is)...

hmm I thought that the EPoX EP-8K5A2+ with Raid was newer?

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by gamma742 on 04.09.05 at 03:32:32
No I remember now, the 3 stands for 333MHz and the 5 is a 266MHz board. I think.

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by exxe on 04.09.05 at 09:37:16

the 2+ is only a sticker
the EP-8K5A3+  has 4 IDE RAID

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by gamma742 on 04.09.05 at 23:13:00
I was refering to the 8K3 vs 8K5.
But it looks like the 8K5 also has the KT-333 chipset.

Hmm... Well, I'm happy to hear that it's not stressing the AGP beyond the 66MHz level.

Just for fun - 6 cards on one ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo:

- Viewtop Vulcan G (6 MB Voodoo Graphics)
- Viewtop Vulcan Rush (6 MB Voodoo Rush, TV-In/Out)
- Quantum3D Obsidian 2 X-24
- 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 PCI
- 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 PCI
- 3dfx Voodoo 4 4500 AGP

No place for Banshee, unfortunately... :)

Yeah just amagine a 200SBi in it place or a 100SB for that matter.

This is a fun post :) I'd replace the V4 with a V5 6K ;)

I like seeing the longer cards.

Yes, both Boards uses the KT333 Northbridge, the difference is that the 8K3... use the old VT8233A Southbridge, which only has 4 INT-Lanes, USB 1.1 and no LAN. The 8K5... uses the newer VT8235, which supports 8 INT-Lanes, USB 2.0 and it has LAN.

The only disadvantage of the newer Southbridge is the worse overclocking potential. Especially the USB ports of the new southbridge reacts more sensitive to FSB overclocking.

Quantum Obsidian SB50-4440 12MB  :)

The secondary board that sticks onto it is the Amethyst daughterboard wich adds 4MB of RAM and a secondary Texelfx processor. (Without the daughterboard it has 8MB ram and one Texelfx)

As Gamma said- If you install the board and the drivers show it as 4 200Sbi you have a defective Mercury unit.

If it shows as HgM-96 TV you *might* have a working brick.

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by TM30 on 10.09.05 at 14:44:08
if it shows 4 200Sbi there might be only the AA Module defective? Cause when the 4 cards work as single ones...

...but at first i need a vga cable... or can i test it even without the cable? do i have a 2D signale without a loopcable or sth. else?

Maybe, but when I swapped out the cap card and riser boards it made no difference.

There is a reason Quantum3D threw them out, if they could have fixed them with a simple cap card I suspect they would have.

I don't see why not, just don't exceed 600-650 mhz, Merc won't work.

Well the one I bought from Logical Madness runs fine @ 700MHz.

Quote from Logical Madness-

"Mercury System (Processors need to be downgraded to 600mhz each for 100% stability with subsystem)"

look on the Q3D hp;)

Quote:
Also be aware that Voodoo2 and Voodoo Banshee (Raven) based cards will likely not work with many newer motherboards due to a hardware incompatibility issue in the original 3Dfx chipset with a 133MHz front side bus (FSB). 133MHz front side bus is common among many modern day mainboards. Thus, if you are having problems installing or operating your Voodoo2 (Obsidian2) or Voodoo Banshee (Raven) based video card, please first verify that the motherboard for your computer system does not use a 133MHz FSB (try setting your system up to operate at 100MHz FSB if possible) and then verify you have installed the appropriate driver for the video card. Or consider getting a new graphics card such as from nVidia.

normal PIII 600 runs 100x6 all over 600 runs @133FSB

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by gdonovan on 10.09.05 at 19:31:41
1) P3 was available up to 1.0 ghz on 100 mhz bus, my AAlchemy system has dual 850's on a GX+ board (8.5 x 100).

2) Bus speed of the cpu has no effect on PCI slots if not overclocked (33/66mhz)

Title: Re: 2 monster, one aim
Post by gamma742 on 10.09.05 at 19:37:41
I tried my old one with dual 1GHz CPUs running @ 100fsb and the sub-System would not engage. I haven't seen that yet on the LM machine. I only have one 600MHz cpu but as soon as I run across another one 600/512/100/2.05V SL3JT I'll be dropping them in just to be on the safe side ;)

Gary, you ran 650s for a time. Did your merc ever "not engage" under that configuration?

Mercury doesn't run under '98.

Install NT4 with a least service pack 3 and download the drivers from Quantum3D.

Mercury has no 2D, a second board is required. On the GX+ boards from intel there is on board 2D.

Technically no- Mercury is only supported by NT4.

The real answer is a bit less clear, you can install the Mercury NT4 drivers under 2000 and my green brick works... but there is no control panel tab to tell you if it is working as a Mercury brick or 4 200SBi.

Ebay should be easy, any computer store should have a disc on the rack. Lots of Compaq's shipped with them if you know anyone with a business & a Compaq they might have the OEM disc.

A friend who worked for a major company gave me some sealed discs with manuals from Compaq systems they had there that were being discarded.

and tomorrow i will look at work if they have an old NT licence...

It will work with NT 4.0 Workstation or Server version so which ever one you find will work. It's a little easier to setup workstation as server has a lot more setup questions.
