Title: Voodoo2 and XP...problems
Post by James on 27.07.03 at 19:17:28
Hi,

I have two voodoo2's in SLI mode setup on a Win XP Pro system. I used the FastVoodoo2 v2.5 drivers. Everything installed correctly and works fine except when I exit a Glide-based game, my desktop graphics get completely corrupted. I have to reboot in order to correct it.

Any ideas what might be causing this and/or how to fix it? Should I be using different drivers?

Thanks,
James K.

one question : when the bug occurs, if you unplug your screen from the voodoo2 and plug it again on your primary video card.. do you get your desktop back?

I'm running a Voodoo1 under win2K
and I often crash in glquake
This leaves me stuck on glquake's last displayed image

and if I do the trick I get my desktop back (have to reboot to play again, and that's painfully long on an old BM server  :P  ;D)

One way that might fix the problem without rebooting would be to use PowerStrip.  Bind a desktop resolution and colour depth to a hot key in PowerStrip.  Then create an Application profile with PowerStrip for the game you're having trouble with and check the "Monitor keyboard controller for hot keys" box.  This enables a very low level hook on the keyboard that'll work if anything can.

Press the res change hot key when the screen gets garbled and see if that returns you to the desktop.  I get a similar problem exiting (from Direct3D on GeForce2) Colin McRae Rally here.  It fixes it for me.  8)

I'd also try Anthony's XP driver if I were you.  The modified glide files in the Fastvoodoo set might be the cause of the problem and they aren't delivering any extra eye candy on a Voodoo2 anyway.

Thanks everyone. I tried the w2k reference drivers too but got the same problem. I haven't tried the Athlon drivers yet. Will they work on a P4?

Thanks,
