..and I hope for couple of more things as well:

-classic inventory, health and armor (that mean no friggin' regenerating health-even a IQ 50 console retard should be able to find a medkit when his health reaches red numbers, thank you)
-normal save system (again, even a drooling abomination of an average console player should be fully capable of navigating through a couple of menus and saving the progress,at ANY point he deems fit)
-fully working mouselook (clarification: mouselook does NOT mean just mapping the up/down/left/right buttons from the console controller to the vertical/horizontal mouse axis,if you have played the last wolfenstein you should know what I'm talking about-the clunky mouse has killed this game for me)

add nice graphics, duke style funny stuff, make it bloody, and we are good.

I'm in this boat with you man, I hope all those features are included. (and more)

In regards to your Wolfenstein mouse lag issue:

The game for some reason has the Y sensitivity set to half the X sensitivity, and theres no menu option to change it, and the cfg file is hidden away. Also the game has huge amounts of mouse smoothing on by default so it feels laggy. The following steps will correct this.

For XP - C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Local Settings\Application Data\id Software\WolfSP\base\wolf.cfg

For Vista/Windows7 - C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\id Software\WolfSP\base\wolf.cfg

then change:

seta m_pitch from "-20" to "-40"

and add:

seta m_filter "0"

Interesting take on PC vs. Console.  The problem is not all console games (and their PC versions) violate all the above mentioned infractions.  Games like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 1 had decent inventory and save systems on the console versions.

One really annoying feature that is found in most newer games (on any platform) is infinite respawning of enemies.  COD games are the most serious offenders of this crime against gamers.  I've dropped more f-bombs than I can count working my way through the COD 4-7 games.  Combine this with stupid unfair check-pointing save points and you can just imagine the game developers laughing at you when trying to play through on veteran difficulty.  Fallout 3 and Borderlands also suck with their infinite respawn systems.

None the less, I too have high hopes for DNF.  I've been waiting since ~2000 for this project to finally get released.

I'm not a big fan of respawning myself-but,under certain conditions, sane amount of respawning can be even beneficial, adding that "on the edge" feeling that improves the atmosphere of the game greatly (think system shock, stalker and similar).

the important words here are "sane amount",and "certain games",and I agree that infinite respawning combined with a checkpoint system in a game such as cod is a path to madness and eternal damnation. ;D

as for consoles vs pc,yeah, there are some pretty decent cross-platform games, but generally, they tend to be sh!tty, because of that stuff I (we) have mentioned.

or maybe I'm just getting old (30 in a couple of months),hehe.

aanyway, the new duke is a keeper, bad controls or not-and in the meantime, how 'bout running through the classic game one more time?

I think you are wrong here. Veteran it's suposed to be VERY HARD, it's not the game developers fault that you are playing on that difficulty and expect no problems.

I have a similar problem, but "on the other side" : there are some games that are hard even on easy difficulty, now that's a real problem. But playing on the thoughest difficulty and complaining that it's difficult is stupid, no offense. Thoughest difficulty SHOULD BE very hard and the game should punish you for the slightest mistake you make, you have to play perfect to finish the game.

If you're not a hardcore gamer lower the game difficulty. As I said I only complain when I play on easy and it's too hard, then you really have nothing to do :(

You took my comment out of context.  My complaint was really against the check-point method of saving games that is typically used for games developed for consoles (and their PC ports).  I was specifically calling out the more recent Call of Duty games.  Often you have to pass over a very specific point on the map to trigger the save.   When you combine missed checkpoints with wildly inconstant difficulty on a particular level (this is my other complaint), you end up hitting parts of the game where it turns into "mission impossible", even for a hard-core gamer.  Call of Duty: World at War has several "mission impossible" segments like this.   The game is also often referred to as "COD: Grenades at War".  On Veteran difficulty, grenades rain down like confetti, making even the hardcore gamer frustrated during more difficult segments.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer, which is why I've finished most of my games on the hardest difficulty setting they have (including all of the COD games I was bitching about).  However, I do it almost solely as a mental exercise to test my will power.  As for games being too hard on easy, I don't recall any games recent games that I thought had this problem.  Some older games like Quake 1 or 2 tended to be fairly tough even on the easy or medium difficulty.  Quake 1 on nightmare...now that's for the truly hardcore or criminally insane gamers.

sigtau, I know what you mean, I hate the checkpoint system too, I had a lot of problems at the end of Killzone2, because I kept dying just before a new checkpoint and I had to replay the mission again over and over.

But I repeat : if you play on the hardest difficulty you have NO RIGHT to complain that the game is too difficult or that the checkpoint system is not fair. If you CAN'T beat the game lower the difficulty, you're not skilled enough. It's plain and simple.

Even more, I think that the thoughest difficulty should be *almost* impossible to beat, you have to play PERFECT. The oposite is also true, the game on easy should be very easy, even the less skilled player should not have problems. Unfortunately there are a lot of games that are quite hard on easy. Now there you can complain. But not when YOU select very hard.
