Voodoo5 5500 Cooler - Another approach
25.07.07 at 21:18:19

All the new graphics card have today an agressive and great look.  The colling is more efficent too.
Why not to change the look of a voodoo5 5500 card ?

You will need for the start some paper ( later Plexiglas ), some 3dfx logos, 3dfx advertising, patience, and a lot of imagination.  Wink

So that i obtain this "paper prototype" :

...

...

Top View !

The air should be taken from the case inside.

...

The blow holes...the air will be blast outside..something like the OTES sistem from ABIT cards...

...

...

...

After the model is choose the paper will be replaced with Plexiglas... some red LED can improve the optical effect.
With this big "case" the first PCI Slot will become unavailable.
In my Fotos the card has the original collers. But not for long time.....  Grin

Regards.
Radu.

The flat fan you have is no good! Lips Sealed

You will need a BLOWER fan if you are serious about this... Wink

...but I'm sure you knew that anyhow! Roll Eyes

Air gets trapped at the blue swirls. Placing a curved corner there will ensure the air can get away far better; better cooling.

I will improve the Cooler " Design " an post new pictures asap.
Wink

I think about closing also the rear side of the card...the PCB behind the VSA Chips get's hot and an air flow in this area will "do the job".

What about a cooler for the Voodoo5 6000 ?
This will look really "BIG"  Grin

Very orriginal ideea of a modding job applied to an aging Voodoo5. I like it alot, Radu. I try to imagine how nice would the cooling system be, built in plastic with the 3DFX workart displayed. Do you plan to use a heatpipe cooler inside it?
Happy modding!

Yes, i plan to use some cooper heatsinks, connected between with a heatpipe. My choosing possibilityes are limited because of the poor PC accesories Market here in Romania.
One big cooler should be enough to cool the card.

you can use voodoo3 3000 heatshinks

...
sorry for poor image quality

but you have to cut of 1cm of the heatsink or nned a Mainboard with no parts betwine AGP and 1st PCI slot
and bend the power plug of the rear chip fan near the bios)

For best Cooling, you should use a radial fan like this:

http://www.tiger-electronics.de/KUeHLUNG-und-LUeFTER/DC-Kompaktluefter/Titan/Tit...

The Problem will be, that either the whole thing would be either very high (2cm height of the card in the back + 3,3cm height of the fan) or very long (+ ~9cm) if you place it behind the PCB...

In this case, it'll be even longer than a V5-6k Cheesy

There's a smaller radial fan http://www.tiger-electronics.de/KUeHLUNG-und-LUeFTER/DC-Kompaktluefter/Titan/Tit... which only has ~ 1,5cm height, but this would look less "massive" overall Sad

Found this fotos on the internet...

...

The nv5 Silencer seems to fit on the voodoo5 card. Just take a look at his size !

The only pat that need to be changed is the heatsink ( two instead of one piece ), and the NV5 silencer can be used then on a voodoo5 card.....
Let's call him them 3dfx silencer  Grin

The cooler case can then later be customized with " of course " the voodoo eyes  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Might fit, the board in the picture does not look to be a V-5500, it has a AGPx8 cutout on the edge connector and dual DVI.

Edit- Sorry if I misunderstand your post, the picture makes it look like the silencer is on a 3dfx board.

no, the coller in the picture is mounted on an nvidia card.
Wink
there is no doubt about.

But, the size of an nvidia card and a v5 card seems to be the same.. so that i came to the ideaa to put on a 3dfx card a modified nvidia cooler.
