Speed Voodoo4 AGP
02.12.06 at 12:25:47

i got a Speed Voodoo4 AGP, but this card is very strange

- there are TV out connectors on the Card, and all SMDs like a PowerColor have, but no TV chip and no 2nd "Crystal oscillator".
- the memory is TC- 7, 143MHz
- near the D-sub some SMDs missing

Parts were left off to save money- I would not run the card long as Hank indicated one way they saved some money was by not including a 2.9 volt regulator for the core voltage and are running the VSA-100 at 3.3 AGP volts.

There might be a way to lower the AGP voltage in BIOS. Will it work then?

Well it will work at the normal 3.3 AGP, the question is for how long? The core runs very, very hot with 3.3 input.

Lowering the AGP voltage might help the core longevity but introduce other issues.

Then he should use the best out of it. Overclock the card - and get it some active cooling like an old and reliable titan orb Smiley

well it's not a common card like  a Geforce or a Radeon Lips Sealed,  this card is alot rarer and not worth overclocking it while it's not even working properly which that could defect it instead. Shocked Wink

What motherboard did you use for testing? I'm pretty sure it is an AGP 3.3 volt part only like the Powercolor Voodoo 4's

Hi Guys,
Heh, I have an L-shaped Voodoo4 4500 - according to the site thedodgegarage.com/3dfx it is the OEM version of the Powercolor card. Since I do not know much about electricity, capacitors, voltage regulators, etc. I would like to ask if there is a problem running this card on newer mainboards. I had not done it so far, I was not sure if that would be safe. I tested the card for a few days on an MSI 6309 board - this one has AGP 2, I guess, and it ran without any problems. It is  slower than a Geforce2 MX 400 with 32 MB of RAM, though. I am certainly keeping the card of course - the only V4 I have so far, I just wanted to know if it is safe to use it for a long time.

Greetings to everyone and have a Merry Christmas: Bustar

If I recall correct the Powercolor Voodoo 4's are 3.3 volt boards, not 1.5v/3.3v like the 3dfx Voodoo 4's.

When I tested mine the motherboard BIOS indicated they were pulling 3.3 so you might have a problem with a motherboard that does not supply that voltage.
