1NSANE Glide or D3D?
15.04.05 at 20:43:57

Hi,
wondering how slow 1nsane demo runs on my system i switched from glide to d3d and now it runs much faster. I think it's a good idea to check all 3d api's a game provides and see wich one has best quality/speed. Thinking glide is always faster because it is optimized for voodoo is wrong.

Regards,
Andreas

I have full game Insane (1nsane) and it's working perfectly in glide (as much as d3d), but it's little buggy (sometimes kicks you out to windows)!!

I dont know, but maybe demo is little diferent optimised for gameplay then full game !!  Undecided

b.t.w. 1nsane is very good and playable action/racing game (maybe one of the last made with glide support)!! Play it!!  8)

Rating 7.5/10! Grin

When starting 1nsane there is a warning message that the game is only 80% finished and the demo doesn't represent the full game. So maybe you are right dlc and the glide part wasn't optimized yet.

@gamma742
Yes, and before you ask, it runs well in d3d. Especially the shadows look good. Only the viewing distance get's shorter and shorter at start (i leave all graphic details at automatic).

I know I don't have the Game Insane, but I have recently made comparisons with Glide and D3D in other games.

In Deus Ex, Glide does not look as good as D3D, and it shutters a bit. Although the Screen shots I took in Glide look much better than D3D. Glide is great for older games from my POV.

Ex. in Need For Speed 2 SE in 3DFX physics are much better than in Software/D3D, and it looks much better too.
In games were open gl and D3D are available, using that I get better performance and looks a little better too. Older games thou, that don't have open gl option, glide is best

Kuze - For the Citizens part, they don't even recognize the massive explotation inherited in the system. They absorb only the information that appeals to them that's easy to accept. Theirs is a phony society, I want to open their eyes to that fact.

Nah, that does'nt seem right at all, in all my unreal engine game's (all known) glide is always the better/optimal choice for visuals and sheer speed, switching to D3D or OpenGL will almost always reveal visual effects not functioning and typicaly a rather noticeable reduction in the framerate  Wink

As I'm an avid pc games collector it would be unthinkable to not have a 3dfx rig or two or three to give me glide support on a substantial quantity of retro games    Grin

In the Beginning God created Glide for 3D Accelerated PC Games and it was good  Cheesy Grin 8)

not god but 3dfx, hehe 3dfx has a higher rank than God Grin

3dfx has true nature of the Force within!

okay 3dfx Glide is way better than D3d fur sure there, 16 Bit Glide can be comparable to 32 Bit D3D in most cases but Glide just has better colouring effect, the glow effects mix better in Glide than D3D, the glow effects like for Unreal's Bluegreen water glows on the walls and things like that Glide has much more true colour than any API I've seen, btw S3 MeTaL wasn't bad either, MeTaL had the sharpest S3TC.

I used my Viper II Z200 [S3 Savage 2000] & Stealth III S540 eXtreme [S3 Savage 4 eXtreme] for MeTaL.
