Title: Diablo with a Voodoo
Post by LuxKiller65 on 03.11.04 at 10:21:07
I searched the Net but I didn't find anything out about playing Diablo (I) with a Voodoo card? Does anyone know if this is possible?

I read it's possible to play the II with a Voodoo, but someone should confirm this 'cause I'm not quite sure it is.

BTW, who plays this (these) games under a Voodoo?

Diablo uses no 3d video.

Thats right, Diablo I is 2D only.
Even a crappy S3 Trio can handle it, so no need to use a Voodoo. Of course any Voodoo with a 2D part can play that game.

Fine! And what about Diablo II and LoD?

Diablo 2 can be run in 2D, Glide or Direct3D.
I played it some months ago on a Voodoo4 in Glide mode, works flawless and looks nice.

Can Voodoo cards handle 2d, Glide and D3D? Or just 2d and Glide?

Voodoo 1 & 2 ONLY do GLiDE, D3D (in win9x) and OGL. :P

Whereas Voodoo Rush, Banshee, V3, v4, V5 and prototypes all do 2D as well as the above! ;D

Hope that answers your question. ;)

Yes, absolutely. Thanks!

I read that it is highly recommended to use 3dfx Glide for Diablo II, as the game was originally designed for this special API.

;)

well it is really obvious on my machine, it has 2 voodoo2's in SLI together with 2 4870's in Crossfire and when doing the videotest it prefers 3DFX glide over the 4870's. LOL

I noticed by the way that in this rig I really need to cool my v2's, the run a lot hotter then in older rigs for some reason. :)

Keep those v2's properly cooled in that rig or they'll burn. It would be interesting to see fps comparisons on your rig, old vs new. :)

I could... but its a waste of time. Glide doesnt look any better then D3D; and for the record, on V5 5500 D2 with D3D works even better then with glide (you can alt+tab with D3D, while the game crashes if u alt+tab with glide).

Mh...I might be wrong, but I think the game runs smoother while using Glide.
