Title: Canopus' Witchdoctor setup...
Post by paulpsomiadis on 06.01.07 at 18:31:13
I was thinking about this lately (yep, it's another thing on my "To buy" list...) ;)

On the Pure 3D 2 there is the internal pin header for the witchdoctor setup (male pin header) :)

However, since the SLI is connected normally via the slave Voodoo 2 to the Master Voodoo 2, then the  Master Voodoo 2 goes to the Spectra 2500... :P

What does the other pin header do? ???
(same size, but to the left on the Pure 3D 2, and below on the Spectra 2500)

Any ideas @Gary? ???

See the picture at the bottom.

The connector for the TNT board is seperate from the SLI connector.

It's a setup that works pretty good, I have used it a few times.

Yeah, I already said that - even though I (admittedly) didn't phrase it very well. ::) :P
(sorry for the confusion) :-[

I can see that these's another small connector on both boards, but... :)

...this connector is to the LEFT of this on the Pure3D 2, and BELOW this on the Spectra 2500. ???

So what does the extra connector do? ???

Could you post a picture?

ERM...I guess I'd have to have webspace for that right...

I'll try and illustrate it with ASCII art (if I can)...

ON PURE 3D 2
==========
XXXXXX#####

(where X= unknown Female connector)
(where #= witchdoctor connector)

On Spectre 2500
============

XXXXXX
#####

(where X= witchdoctor connector)
(where #= unknown Male connector)

==EDIT==

I may have solved it myself after thinking about it...

Since the connectors are reversed M/F to F/M, then...

In Witchdoctor NORMAL setup the Voodoo output goes through the Spectra.

But if the connectors are reversed, what's to stop the user of the cards from connecting the Witchdoctor cable the other way round.

This way the Spectra output would go through the 3Dfx card (like normal passthrough - but internally)

Hmm...well it shows the extra connectors - even in the manual. ::)

But it still doesn't mention what they do! :P

Ah well, never mind - I guess their true purpose will remain a mystery! :)
