AHA! So the compaq V3 1000 IS the HOTTEST! ::)
I figured as much, as I had to fan-mod mine (see other thread)... :P We REALLY need to find out WHY this happens - especially for Athlon systems... ??? |

Just watch your fingers and make sure you're not using them as the thermometer. ::)

1) Remember the Compaq card has no heatsink and was being run on a period system motherboard. I'm sure the temps are in spec for the chip and PCB. 2) I'm sure Compaq was aware what the chip ran at as they do extensive case testing before selling thousands if not millions of computers. 3) The majority of computers sold with this chip were business or cheap machines that at best saw light gaming consisting of solitare ;-) 4) The callouses on my fingers are so thick from working on turbocharged race cars for 20 years that I can't "finger test" since I can handle stuff for minutes at a time that other people drop in seconds. |

I've superglued my fingers many a time and know what it feels like to have the "thick" skin. I'd hate that. :)
You'd be coating the 3dfx chips with a layer of your fingertips if you leave em on for too long. Good luck cooling that card, and finding out what causes it to be so hot! |

Nice test, all Cards remained relatively cool, only the -1000 became a bit hot.
If I had a Temp sensor and did testing on my AthlonXP boards, the temps would be 30-40% above that for some cards. I think a V3-1000 would be quickly destroyed if I tried it and encountered the heat bug. |
