Hi,

Seeking on internet I found this marvelous 3Dfx sample. I contacted with a 3Dfx Engineer and  He sold to me his card and  It already is in my hands!!!  ;D

Voodoo5 5000 AGP4x 32Mb SGRAM
Rev. A0 3700 with NOT FOR RESAL tags on the board.

It works perfectly under Windows98 with the last original 3Dfx driver. Under Windows XP it just works in 2D Mode.

This is an intersting find Osckhar, it seems that there were quite a few of thes 5000's made, I wonder how many?

your model is a Rev.A0 3700 by the looks of it, possibly the latest of it's kind, but id we get the 5000 PCI it's design is alot older, they are reved and dated with Rev.A1 0900, this must be also the reason why 3dfx changed the model layout of the 5000 PCI to the AGP layout, smaller and there fore maybe easier to fit is other cases.

as you can see the difference if rather big.

If anyone really knows why 3dfx changed they layout so differntly, would be nice to know.

Honestly I do find the AGP model a little odd with its RAM placement.

I totaly respect that. I didn't mean to be nosy; just seeing this jewl I couldn't help myself asking ... You are right, when such a special card is available, the price shouldn't be the issue (that is if you can afford it, off-course :) )

It was purchased to NapalmX from x3dfx forum jointly with 2 Obsidian SB200 and a PCI Raven! ;)

This card was bought by NapalmX to justdeal.com, he bought a V5 5000 AGP4x and he received the V5 5500 Engineer/Beta Sample with a V5 BOX without  codes/serial.

Nope, It boots but has not right 2D function. The card is not recognized for the driver. :( Perhaps it has a problem with his bios. It shows  rev. 1.01b (very early bios)  :o

hmm a shame, maybe the bios is only meant for the card to boot and that's it, heh really odd indeed. I do see a little rework above the AGP x2 connector, dunno why they did that.:

Nice catch Oscar :) congrats buddy :) The Force is Strong in you, I can Sense that, that is a 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A2 2600 to be precise. it has 5.5ns Hyundai ram right? not like the 5.4ns ram on the following:

Yeah cores/mem 166Mhz  some of those Rev.A2 2600's did have the fractionally faster 5.4ns SDRAM and some even ran at 183Mhz Core/mem speeds., does it work well with Rotated Grid FSAA x2, x4 & x8 modes as well? Well I surely hope so ;)



Well I won't be purchasn't any Voodoo's at this moment just suffered 2 deadly HDD Crashes, lost a 60GB HDD in my Main Voodoo5 rig not two weeks ago and today the same happened in my Dual OpteronDP 244 rig, Thank the Force that they weren't my Main HDD's of those two systems.

I replaced the dead Maxtor ATA 100 60GB by a Maxtor ATA-133 80GB in the AXP 2700+ and for the Dual OpteronDP 244 replaced the dead Maxtor ATA-133 60GB by a Maxtor ATA 120GB today not 4 hours ago.

so that are my reasons for no more Voodoo's, things happen and yeah I did have plans , but I scraped those.   :-/ :-/

Anyways that Voodoo4 4500 AGP + DVI & TV-Out 32MB is indeed a nice one, that used to be FalconFly's card :)

Sometimes I really wonder how many Voodoocards are found worldwide, anyone an idea about this one? maybe asamall 2500 in total, that still wouldn't be much for a worldwide population wouldn't it.

BTW as you can see this card can be fitted with a second VGA-Out that spot is even printed!!! which is very rare seen because most cards that have that spot empty also have no printed circuit only the holes for the pieces that belong there, Oscar's card has those parts allready in place , so theory this card can be upgraded to dual head Voodoo5 5000 PCI really ballistic!

This is the part that really says that the card reviewed is the card you have :)

The Voodoo 5 above is based on the version A0 VSA-100 silicon, it still has some bugs in it and it can't run on the speed that it's supposed to do. The final Silicon (which is going into mass-production quite soon) will run on 166MHz compared to the 100 MHz A0 version that was presented to me.

Just pointing out that A0 refers to the chip revision, not the board revision.

if you compare the PCB of a V6K Rev.A1 1500 and Rev.A2 2600 the PCB's are totally different so are the Revisions, how should we determine the PCB's revision if REV A0 wouldn't be that ?

Where must I look for that? since that 4899 is the PCB date hehe aka Week 48 Year 1999 that is.

That's the revison of the PCB which has nothing to do with the revision of the VSA-100 chip.

Like any semiconductor I'm sure some A0 chips run at only 100 mhz safe and others at higher speeds. Since the V5-6000 was slated to run at 183 mhz I think that was the target speed for the chips with the "lesser" chips being used for the 4500/5500 cards.

Can't really say since when I obtained the board it did not have the original bios and I have not removed the fans to look at the chips.

I remember Hank remarking that the later V5-6000 used A3 chips and would run fine at 200 mhz... so the process was refined as time progressed and the design bugs squashed.
