Title: ATi Radeon X1900 CFE card
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 02.02.06 at 17:07:26
Hello all

Like you all know the ATi Radeon X1900 series is growing in numbers  and getting more famous by the day.

I was wondering if it was possible to use an ATI Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition model as primary VGA and the Voodoo5 5500 PCI as secondary :)

Would that work so that I can add a normal XTX model next to it as upgrade, since that the CFE versions will be harder to get hands laid on, the do have a DVI Out so I thought why not, or are the CFE cards only add-on cards for the XL, XT and XTX cards?

here the X1900 CrossFire Edition:

and here the XTX card:

As I understand it, the Crossfire Edition is the master card for Crossfire mode, so you need it for sure.  The second card can be any X1xxx model.

AFAIK all X1900 models have two dual-link DVI ports, but it's possible that some vendors may cheap out on this.

I have to admit that I think you'd be crazy to buy an X1900 XTX.  They're priced $100 higher than the XT, and all that gets you is 4% higher core clock and 7% higher memory clock.  In the benchmarks I've seen, it's not worth $100 at all.

But hey, do what you will...    ;D

And is it just me, or am I missing less loud and much lower power consumption versions of all modern Cards ? ;)

IMHO the insane performance is fine of course, but it should rather be elegantly achieved by technology, not by brute force clock rates and Cooling.

I agree with you.

I think we're at such a performance level right now that both NVidia and ATI should take one full development cycle and focus strictly on power and heat reductions.  Give us cards that perform like an X1900XTX with half the power draw, and either a QUIET single slot cooling solution or a SILENT double-slot solution.

Unfortunately there are just too many people out there who don't care whether their machine sounds like a C-130 at takeoff, as long as they can run at native resolution on a 23" LCD with 4X AA and 16X AF...  It's no wonder the sound card market isn't so hot, when nobody can hear the game audio over their machine anyway.

;)

it's a Sennheiser PX200 BTW ;) anyways about Fan loudness the X1900's are known to make not that much of a racket , you can always pump up the volume :) with FS 2004 my Boeing 747-412 always takes the upper hand, anyways thanx for the tips about the X1900 CFE card so it is possible anyways I am planned to get both, CFE and XTX model I might as well go fo the best so I can use them for the next 4 years. It is that I don't OC I can't be bothered to do that.

hmm are there allready any users with an Ati Raddy X1900 based card, tell me what are your experiences with it, is the cooler somewhat noisy or is that not such an issue?

How does the card really perform, alot better than the X1800XT it's self like the benchmarks tell us all? maybe it would be nice to go more in depth is this great design from ATi Canada.
