Only two 3dfx flags...one stood/hung outside of the texas headquarters, this is the one in the auction, and there's another one, that's in a shrink wrap/platic bag/case...that's tweakmeister's.

er, useless to say, but i think 3dfx had had more than 2 flags, regardless how much were hoisted  Wink

Yes, but that's what the other seller said, when he was selling his!  Wink
You can't be too careful, I've seen 3 identical flags to this one, so it can be very difficult to identify which is the genuine one.

After all, they don't come with barcode/serial numbers and a receipt do they? Wink

Yes, this is my old collection (with a different card or two). As for the flags, there were two of them at the Richardson building - a new one in the box that never flew (Tweak's flag) and the used one that flew in front of the building which is the one in this auction. This flag has a lot of small stains and some frayed edges but that's what I liked about it. Yes guys, the 6k card worked excellent when I had it. The other card is (or should be) one of the only two existing 2x2 6k cards. Funny thing is - if I could have any of them back, it would be the 200mhz 3500 Falcon card...but that one was just my personal favorite. Of course I'm still using my other 3500 now.

Geez...$500 with NO reserve? I may bid on this one. He actually paid me seven times that...and I had 4 other bidders at the time just dying for him to welch on the deal so they could buy it. It should bring a good final total though. I was working for a division within 3dfx that spun off into another company when they went down. I begged the guys for the flag when it was pulled down - and eventually got it.

Overall, "ai5u" is a really nice guy and true to his word - at least when I dealt with him. I'd highly reccommend this auction and I hope a fellow x-3dfx'er wins it! Heck, if you do...cut me a deal on the 3500 Falcon!!!

FYI, VMAN worked out 3dfx, he was an STB engineer to be exact. He, like Hank, used to fix people's 6ks about 1.5 years ago ( I doubt he does it anymore), so hence his post; he "took" the flag that hung outside the building...if there were anymore (in that building), I'm pretty sure he would have mentioned them  Wink

VMAN, or Hank, for that matter, never worked in 3dfx marketing then, or worked in textiles??  Grin, where they made the flags ( as they probably paid some eastern employees a very low sum to make the flags). Therefore, VMAN nor Hank have any knowledge of how many flags were made, which are genuine, and which are not. Wink

There are probably more (genuine & fake) 3dfx flags out there that VMAN or Hank know about.  Wink

I never said that VMAN's flag wasn't a genuine one. My point was simply that, buyers should still be aware of a 3dfx flag if they ever come across it as they never know if it is genuine or not.  They could be paying hundereds of dollars ($ USD) for something that is worth no more than $10 - $20 USD.

Were STB the 3rd party company that built the later generation of cards for 3dfx (V3/4/5/??6??) ?

STB  originally produced a couple 3dfx cards (v1/2/rush), then they merged with 3dfx, so all the 3dfx-built cards after that were actually made by the former STB. I'm not sure exactly when the break was, tho.

In dec. 1998, 3Dfx announced that it will acquire STB Systems and the merger was definitive in may 1999.

Thanks for correcting me, patience, I knew it was something like that! I was thinking of the Black Magic, and I thought they made stuff before it, but I guess not  Tongue
