Are we alone?
18.07.05 at 17:21:32

Hello everyone,

today I had a very strange feeling, are we really alone out here?

Is Earth really the only place where there is life? This has been going in my mind for eons, will we ever find out if there are other planets for possible inhabitation, I really question myself this many times.

What about other species, I do possibly think that we have been watch for many eons.

If there are others that may have some thoughts about this, I would like to hear you out.

May The Force Be With Us All.

Ben Kenobi.

While noone can answer this question (yet Wink ), why don't you just help to find out ?

Data to answer this question is being taken from here since quite a while :
...

To be more precise, from its 90ton heavy Transceiver :
...

To analyze the Data, just Download and Install BOINC SETI (based on Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, still part of the global SERENDIP Project)

...
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

This is about what it will look like to answer the question (using the default Software) :
...

In the future, Data will also be aquired from here :
...

As someone once said- Either we are alone or we are not. In either case the answer is sobering.

Personally, I think we are not alone. Earth itself is teeming with life, there is a fair chance if life is here then it is elsewhere as well.

I don't think the earth is getting buzzed with UFO's though, the universe is a big place and were out in the sticks.

Hmm Seti @ Home, is cool, I know it, my neighbours have it also, I'll be installing it later today FalconFly.

my nodes are:

Dual OpteronDP CG 244 1800Mhz
Pentium4 HT E 3400Mhz
AthlonXP 2700+ 2167Mhz
K6-2 500 @ 550Mhz.

I suppose the K6-2 is abit on the slow side

There are extremely CPU-optimized 3rd party SETI Clients for BOINC (for Win32 and Linux) ; with those, even that K6-2 should perform quite okay.

And 9717MHz really isn't what I'd call a "bad start" either *g*
Just be aware that the SETI Server is having a little hick-up right now, they're looking into it as we speak.

Since I'm fully on the original SETI again until it closes its doors and fully migrates to BOINC SETI, you might even catch me, here's my standing for all BOINC based Project I participate in :

the distance from earth to sun is 100%...if the earth came into existance in a distance of 95% or 105% we wouldn't able to live here! it is a damn short range but the universe is indefinitely...so there must be another earth...or earthlike planet!

Nah, people managed to live and develop in a Temperature range from -50 to +50 Deg. Celsius, a few % difference in Distance to the Sun wouldn't create such a large problem.
(it may affect the habitable area on a planet though, but all in all, it still a usable, possible harbour of life)

I hope light speed tech nology will come soon, so space travel will be possible, though theoretically lightspeed is a possibillity @ 300.000 KM per seccond Smiley

so 300.000 km per second x60 = 18.000.000 km per minute that x60 = 1.080.000.000 km per hour.

so light speed would be equivalant to:

1.080.000.000 Kilometres per hour  Lips Sealed Shocked Shocked Shocked farout!

So Ionpulse technology would be required.

AFAIK you cannot reach lightspeed...a friend told me that you need indefinitely energy in order to reach lightspeed if your ship or something else has weight...
because of that the light has lightspeed...the weight comes from the speed...strange stuff for me but he is a physics freak...

@falcon: but thats what i heard on a documentary film...+ or - 5% and we are not able to live...

Well Ion Pulse acelleration is at least an improvement:

http://www.zuko.com/Sci-Tech/space_technology.htm

As the xenon gas is fed into the engine, it is ionized (given an electrical charge) and is then accelerated to a speed of about 68,000 miles per hour.   When these emitted xenon ions are shot out of the back end of a spacecraft, they will
push the craft in the opposite direction at a constantly increasing higher rate of speed.

...
so 68.000 mph is not bad though, but it's no where near the speed of light, maybe nuclear pulse maybe needed who knows.

anyway I also do believe there is life on other worlds and maybe more advanced than us, I always have a feeling we are being explored, not the UFO's not that idea but by launcing probes and so on.

About lightspeed... (in case you have means to reach it) you have to accellerate for approx. 30 years!! in order to preserve body's integrity, so: useless.

!Unless: you find a way to dematerialize your body (something like a teleporter) and stay in the buffer while dealing with unhuman accelleration(since hardware handles way higher g levels) Grin
