I need some serious help.
I have an AAlchemy 8164 with an "unknown" powerboard. Gary once said that with this thing i do not need the special PSU. A generic ATX power supply (of course with enough Watts) will be sufficant. But where to connect it?

I made a picture... as you can see one 24pin ATX connector ist taped off. The seller said i do not need to use that one. And there was a 24pin capble included for the Power Supply he says. But this cable has a 24pin ATX MALE connector, so i cannot connect this one to a powersupply!

I can think that noone can help me here so i think i need to contact Hank! can someone send me pls his email adress via PM?

My AA5 has the other power board that requires the special power supply.

There is no mention of this Power Board in the AA5 Manual

yes... and as you can see there is a green wire added on the PCB... maybe its a enigeering sample or something like this?

because all AAlchemys out there, i always spotted them with the other powerboard...

i was at the Q3D Homepage but didnt find anything regarding plugging in a 8164... there is a manual available but that doesnt help.

i think i need the help of Hank! Maybe he knows this special Powerboard...

i took a look on my aalchemy and it has also added some green wires soldered by hand on the main AAlchemy Board!

does other boards have these extra wires also?

That is very interesting. I just finish poking around on the Q3D wed site and can't find anything either. I guess we'll have to wait to hear from Hank. He doesn't post much but I do see him on-line here from time to time.

That is one cool board. Just looking at it makes me want to take mine out of the case and take the cover off of it to get a good look at mine. So far it has taken great restraint to keep me from doing that. This is my first any only complete AAlchemy System and when I loaded the GVS Software and saw it in action, I was too afraid to disassamble the machine... Murphy's Law...

Yes, it was don't to fix stability problems rather than throw the boards away.

gary do you have an idea how to power up my aalchemy or maybe you can contact someone? hank didnt answer yet..

Oh there was one on Ebay but the seller pulled the auction and sold it private.

My board (from 41st week of 2002) has these reworks, too, my other board (from 10th week of 2001, unfortunately the PCI-connector has been cut off) doesn't have them.

little off topic-whats up with people cutting the pci connectors off? half the cards from my pile are like that as well.. ???

Because Quantum3D didn't want them resold, they were defective.

but they are sold anyway... question is how did these units get to the ebay seller....

did anyone get an answer from hank in the past weeks?

hmm, the cable that u have seems to be a bridge cable.
U can also check with a multimeter if there is a direct connection between all the power slot - please post the results  ;)

did u have any news regarding this problem ?

Did you try to start the PC without to connect the Power cable to the aalchemy board ?
