Title: sale: Voodoo5 6000, Quantum3D Aalchemy (broken)
Post by 666psycho on 25.10.08 at 14:08:14
Hi community!

I have two extraordinary cards for sale. The items are located in germany, please keep that in mind concerning shipping costs and end of auction time. Will ship worldwide.

The auction runs until Sunday, 09th Nov. 2008 - 21h (GMT +1), then additional 10 minutes after the last bid.

----

Attention! Auction for the Aalchemy ends 28th Oct. 2008 - 23h (GMT +1)! (on request of masterj85 at VA)

----

Sold:
Voodoo5 6000: 610€ Chosen_One (VA)

----

Sold:
Aalchemy: 50€ masterj85 (VA)

----

3dfx Voodoo5 6000 (3700-A) - the Goddess

I can't tell for sure if she's really dead - fact is she didn't post on the boards I had for testing - these were an Asus P2B(-B) and a Gigabyte GA7-IXE4.
When I got the card she had a rather poor internal power hookup which has been removed by a colleague who is able to do soldering works very well. We then tried to apply a normal internal hookup - but that didn't satisfy us really so we removed it again. The last try was Agent500's method with an internal-external power adaptor.

So all attempts to get the goddess back to life again didn't help. But on the engineering tag it says "won't boot without power supply" - therefore I suggest the card once worked (eventually with voodoo volts?).

Some impressions:

The card will be delivered as you see on the pictures, the power adaptor is of course included.

Bidding starts at: 560€

Quantum3D Aalchemy 8164 (broken)

At VoodooAlert we once made a big order of those broken Aalchemys from USA. So I received the card already in this 2-pieced condition. Nevertheless the card is in a beautiful condition and can be a very nice display card.

Bidding starts at: 50€

I will ship internationally only via DHL. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate asking.

This auction also runs at VoodooAlert in a german version - I will keep both threads up to date of course.

Are V6k's known to work with those two motherboards?  Maybe it's the motherboard.

So this board won't power on using any method then? Internal, VV or modified molex to 1 pin?  (there shouldn't be a difference between the VV and the modified molex to 1 pin cable)

Yes, these boards are 6k compatible - I would never have tested the card on a board which could damage it.

To your second question, the card does power on (i.e. fans are rotating) but it doesn't post. Strange thing was on the P2B I got the "no VGA beep", on the Gigabyte board there was no "no VGA beep" and I seperately tested the boards functionality without a graphics card to be sure the "no VGA beep" does work correctly. Although I didn't get anything to see on the screen with the 6k.

Don't you think EUR 560 is a bit too much to start it at?

No, I think it's fair.

Crap, dead as a dodo then most likely, I'm not so sure now if I will bid. I mean, yes it's a 6K, but over EUR 600 for a display item? I'd rather go the extra mile and get a working one.

Shame. :)

That extra mile could be a BIG ONE.  LOL  The last one on eBay went for 800+ pounds.

But if ya got the money, I agree with you.  ;)

Indeed, it's a bit too much for a display card, but it seems there are people who are willing to pay the price. I was waiting for a dead V5 6000 for some time now, I'd like one very much, but this auction proves that the price of a V5 6000 is way beyond my league  :'(

666psycho, good luck with your sale, you have some nice items there, I still hope that someday I'll get my V5 6000, dead or alive, but not now.

It's funny, the only reason it's so expensive is because it's such a cult item. Not because it's so rare.

I mean, I bought a Tritech Pyramid3D by Bitboys Oy, developer board with CD and programmer manual, if it would be as popular, you'd be looking at 2 grand at least. Now THAT is a rare board, I'm sure most here don't even know what it is, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Heck, even the 3DO blaster is more rare then the V5 6K, or the Creative 3D Blaster VL-Bus.

Thats the Glaze3D (bitboys Axe) I believe, I'm unaware of anyone owning that prototype, in fact that's the only picture I know that exists.  I know somebody who has got two Axe chips though, a rev A and a rev B

I've got this board :
