Title: PC chips mobo for Voodoo 5500 AGP?
Post by whodoovoodoo2man on 24.12.03 at 12:37:27
Hi,

Can anyone tell me if this board will work well with a Voodoo 5500.

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=51254

Looks good value, and was thinking of pairing it with a Athlon 2200 or perhaps a 2400XP.

Cheers

Andy

It has nearly the same specs as my asrock k7vt2 :)

on a KT266 mobo there should be a universal AGP 1x/2x/4x

but that's strange to see it's a KT266.. and not KT266A
I heard KT266 sucks a bit (using DDR  : no faster than SDR)

you can choose between  this PC chips mobo, the k7vt2 and the ECS k7s5a pro

It does use the 266A chipset, they've just labelled it wrong on the website.

Looks like a good buy (lots of positive reviews on the site).

Not looking for a rocket ship here, as I have another system I have built.

This one is going to be a 'Glide' box.

It's actually made by a USA company called Syntax (anyone heard of them?)

Their website is here-

http://www.syntaxusa.com

Looks okay. They seem to offer good support, BIOS updates etc. The manual was excellent, better than the MSI manual I got with my K7N2 Nforce 2 board.

I am also looking for a motherboard that will support my AGP Voodoo's.  The PCI Voodoo's I have I don't have to worry about.
I have already acquired the AGP speed specifications of the Voodoo3 2000/3000/3500TV, which I believe to be a speed of AGP 2x ? Correct?  ::)
But as I trail through reviews for the Voodoo4/5 series, nobody gives me a straight answer on the AGP speed of these cards  >:(. Are they 2x, like the Voodoo3, or 4x, a little more powerful?  I need to find out so I can make a decision on a mobo!  >:(

Can anyone help out on this subject? :)

Janskjaer.

voodoo4 is 4x, and voodoo5 is 2x (3,3volts only)

Post by janskjaer on 29.12.03 at 13:37:04
So I'm guessing that if I wanna mobo that supports allmy Voodoo AGP cards, it'll have to be one that supports 2x/4x together?  ;D

Clever lad, me, you know!  ::)

Well this is just it, I certainly do have trouble choosing a mobo, patience!  :'(

I want to build a new system with a modern CPU, preferably AMD, but I'm stuggling to find a mobo that will support a modern-day Athlon that will also support AGP 2x. Closest I have come to finding a mobo with AGP 2x support, is an Intel Chipset based - Trinity 510 (S2266)
http://www.tyan.com/products/html/trinity510.html
This will support a 400MHz FSB Intel P4, which is about as modern as I can get.

Can anyone help in producing a list of a few motherboards that will support today's CPU's, that will also support an AGP 2x slot? Also, preferably a mobo with lots of PCI slots too ;D (I'm cheeky, aren't I? ;))

Janskjaer.

via&intel?  ::)
better stay to a socket462 based mainboard. this one's kt333 based:
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?langs=09&m=A7V333#
well, you're still able to run a fast and up-to-date cpu - as well as ram - on this board  ;) oh, but you only have 5 pci slots  ;D
if you don't want a raid controller, take its brother:
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V333-X&langs=09
in this case, make sure the non-pro agp fits for the voodoo3/4/5  :) you get amazingly 6 pci slots here!!

--adding--
most/all agp8x boards don't run a agp2x card...so you can't take the newest boards  :P

So Blazkowicz, what Voodoo are you running? Or does your mobo support AGP 2x?

Are Socket 462 & Socket A the same thing?

Or does Socket 462 have CPU speed limitations?
If so, what speeds are we talking about?

yes , it must be a light version of KT400, named  KT333 CF

I'm running a V5 5500 AGP on an Asrock K7VT2 ( as I said above : o  )
KT266A chipset, and it supports AGP 2x and 4x

Blazkowicz,

What CPU speed are you running at? Are these mobos still available to buy?  ???

I'm running a duron 700
but  I just received my XP 2400+ (which is the max CPU on this mobo)

I don't know if you'll find one
it's been replaced by the k7vt4-4x ,  with a KT400 and thus a AGP 4x/8x port

I'm ringing my mobo dealer today! ;D
Hopefully, they can come up with something for me.  ::)
I've also seen a few potential mobo's on eBay if all else fails!

AAaarrgghhh!!!  >:( I'm getting nowhere with this mobo search. My dealer is useless  >:(, who's favourite words are "I can't guarantee it" every time I recommend selecting a board.  :'(

Can someone help me? Anyone! Just please recommend a board to me that:

- Supports AthlonXP (Preferably as high CPU speed as possible)

- Supports AGP 2X (for my V5 5500 AGP)

- Has 5 (or more) PCI slots!

- Is still available to buy (pref. in the UK)

Do that, and I'll love you forever.  :-*

Shuttle AK35-GT2 :)

It's based on the KT333a Chipset, but with a current Bios, it also supports (inofficial I guess) FSB333-CPU's.

I currently run it with an AthlonXP 2500+ ..,

So effectively, you could run it with an AthlonXP 3000+ , which should be really sufficient for a Voodoo5 platform ;)
-------
I also run an ASUS A7V-333 (KT-333a) currently with a FSB333 AthlonXP. Bios support is entirely inofficial, but mine works (not stable at Turbo-Settings though, but I haven't updated its Bios since a while).

You're the greatest!  :D
I'm gonna give those boards a try!
Where would we be without you?  ;)

Many thanks,

Janskjaer ;D

i think shuttle would be a good choice...nearly nobody has a shuttle mainboard, but they really rock...at least my socket7 shuttle mainboard rocked once  8)

>>adding<<
if it fails, try to get an asus board --> excellent user support

The Shuttle is at the top of my list, with the ASUS as a backup!  ;D

It's just trying to find one that proves the difficult part! >:( There isn't many sellers about.

There is a really cool board called the MSI K7T266 Pro2-U.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=386&MODEL=MS-6593
OR
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=K7T266_Pro2U

It's got all the things I need, which is AGP 2x, 6 PCI, and supports AMDXP CPU's up to 2600+.  However, it's like trying to find the Holy Grail.  So difficult to find.  :'(

However, I'll still keep looking, hopefully might come across one. :)

Well, if you're even willing to accept a KT266a-Board, there is a myriad of available platforms at Ebay ;)

All usually support upto AthlonXP 2600+, but finding one of the rare OEM FSB266 XP2600+ is close to impossible. Mostly, they're guaranteed upto 2400+.

So the best bet will be the KT333a in any case, and there are lots of 'em available...

Dear ASUS Tech Support,

I have been looking at your A7V333-X motherboard, but was wondering if you could
answer a question I have about the AGP specification? It says that the AGP is 4x
speed, but was wondering what the voltage of the AGP was (3.3v or 1.5v) because
if it is 3.3v, will the motherboard be able to, or MAY be able to support AGP
2x? As I have a 2x AGP graphics card.

Many thanks,

James Storey.

As Patience said also:

About the Asus A7V333-X , if i remember this mobo doesn't support agp2x (3.3v) because of a "light" version of the KT333

So, is the A7V333-X, different to the A7V333 that supports a Voodoo5 ?

Janskjaer.

the a7xxxx-x versions are usually the same versions as the non -x versions but don't have some features like firewire, serialata etc., so can be sold to lower prices than the non-x versions. anyway, as the x-versions usually come later to the market, they may have evently some new features.

main differences:
a7v333: fsb 200/266
             agppro, 5xpci
             firewire

a7v333-x: fsb 200/266/333
                agp4x, 6xpci
                no firewire

you see, there's an agppro on the a7v333 which (as agp4x) always should supports agp2x cards. check the picture of the a7v333-x at
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V333-X&langs=09
the agp doesn't fit for the voodoo5, no 3.3volt support  :P

Wahey!!! At last!  ;D

I've found a motherboad that fits ALL my requirements! At long last, I never thought I would be able to manage it.  :D

It's a Chaintech 7VJL APOGEE/SUMMIT.

It's KT333 chipset with a universal AGP slot (2x/4x), 6 PCI slots, and will support probably up to AMD 3000XP+ CPU's.

Here is the link:
http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/product_spec.asp?MPSNo=13&PISNo=138

I bought it yesterday. Here's where I bought it from:
http://www.pcproducts.uk.com/Shop/Product_Details.asp?DP=7184&RP=0&BSP=0

Not bad as well for £37.00!!!  ;D

It comes packed with a load of goodies also!

Looks a brilliant mobo and chipset!

Just gonna get the other components and then get my 3dfx system built up! Should be good stuff!  ;D
