Hi outthere  Smiley

together with another swiss hardware site we built up a 3dfx timeline.... so if someone interested in here you can find it: http://www.3dfx.ch/project/index.htm just click on articles in the menu on the left Wink there can you choose between german an english Wink

if there are some wrong informations in it, please let me know (i used a lot of different information, and don't know if everything is true), same with mistakes in the english grammar (the translation was not my work)  Smiley

As stipulated on my website images are not to be used without permission and the "thedodgegarage" logos are NOT to be removed.

Please fix.

thanks! I don't mind them being used (he did ask a while ago) but I do get upset when the logos are taken out. I don't superimpose them on the card to keep from spoiling the view.

..read it all,its quite nice Smiley
only one thing:

Quote:
In October 3dfx tried with a last attempt to bring still money into the empty cashes, they brought the Voodoo 4 4500 on the market and were thereby one year too late.

The graphics card had a good price/performance ratio, however it was already too late..

I dont really agree with this, the card was not as late, the performance was on par with geforce mx cards (usually slower in D3D,but faster in glide and usually in opengl as well),but it didnt sell well exactly because the card did not have a good price/performance ratio.mxes were cheaper, and that was voodoo4's death..

According to this article, the V4 was released in September. It was already announced in November 1999. So it really wasn't a last attempt.

What was their last attempt was selling those 'IBM' Daytona boards and the few V5 5500 AGP 4x cards they had.

The MX cards really hurt the Voodoo 4 & 5 sales, if you check my benchmark page you will see why.

For price vs performance an MX was an outstanding value, the onboard T'n L engine of the G-Force GPU is a huge advantage.

IMHO last the last attempt to "right" things was 3dfx planning to sell off "STB" and return back to it's roots, it was already too late though.

Things that happened in the last weeks- Selling the SLI tech to Quantum3D, allowing Powercolor to sell VSA-100 based boards, selling off prototype or near prototype inventory to IBM and other OEM outlets.

You need to bone up on copyright law before making a statement, patents have nothing to do with the images on my site.

The website clearly states the images are copyright and not to be used without permission, nor are the logos to be removed. They are my work, pure and simple.

Try using Time magazines images without permission on a website and see how many lawyers come knocking on your door, I can assure you that Time has nothing "patented" in their images.

..had a look at the tests, and voodoo4 is faster than mx in only 3 tests (out of 15),the cards are exactly equal in one test, and mx is significantly faster in 3 or 4 tests.in the rest of the tests,mx is slightly faster.I had both cards (dumped the mx long time ago),and I personally liked v4 better.the card was slower, but had great IQ and FSAA (not mentioning glide),mx was faster, but the IQ sucked horribly,FSAA was a joke and there were problems with certain games as well (not mentioning 16-bit games.you dont want to see that).to sum it up:

MX: faster,low IQ,low quality FSAA
v4: slower,great IQ,high quality FSAA,3dfx glide

I think v4 would be a great competition to the mx if they were about the same price,as you can see,the v4 is more balanced than mx,FPS is not everything.there was just one "small" problem,v4 vas 20-25% more expensive..

even the voodoo 5 for that matter was more expensive then the GeForce 2 GTS,
and ithe GTS/Pro definately faster as mentioned.
But still lose out on FSAA.

as much as Voodoo had better FSAA, it is significantly slowed down very much. Perhaps some may say non desirable for play at full sampling.

If you are refering to my benchmark page it is important to note that the tests shown there are a small sampling and in general tend to favor the Voodoo hardware with the exception of Quake 3. Introducing some Direct X titles would have shown the V4 in an even worse light.

The GF2-MX stomps even the V5-6000 in the lower Q3 resolutions and this is with a CPU speed that would have been considered VERY high end back in 2000. Not something you would have had with a budget computer.

Price vs performance the V4 gets run over like a truck by the MX. As for image quality I'd say that is subjective but can't recall anything bad about the MX. The quality of image can vary depending on how much the board maker spent on output filters, my MX was a dual head from Leadteck and was excellent.

Not at all- This board alone has to watch what is posted so German lawyers don't come swooping down on it's owner, happens all the time.

People steal my images and not respect my work? Easy solution, shut down my site with a note why with links & e-mail address of offender posted and no one but I see the rare cards, I'm about at that point now.

Then you get to deal with many angry 3dfx owners for being a tool like the last guy who tried to "borrow" images and take my logo out.

Pity some people wish to not respect someones wishes and all I wish to do is share 3dfx rarities the only way possible.

Caravel, I was just wondering, since your new here, what country are you from?

I also read in a different thread that you are from X-3dfx. I am curious as to if I knew you from there. I of course, go by gamma742 there and everywhere that I go. Some people change "username" when they join different communities.

I am one of a few here from the US as stated in my profile.
