Title: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by Mansfield on 02.11.06 at 19:52:15
Hi there I'm new here. I joined because I need some some solutions to my problem.
I got two techworks power 3d 2 voodoo2 graphics cards. I'm not sure are they same type but I think they both are 12mb so I made sli cable by myself. but I cant get them working. The win 98 works normaly at the desktop. if I use some 3d programs or voodoo2 setup at display gonfigurationpanel. the program freese but not crash win98. the other one v2 work alone, but with the other win98 and 3d programs (ex 3dmark99max) starts normally but the graphics are awful. So what should I do PS. the alone working V2 worked only in the first pci slot could problem be in motherboard. the MoBo is MSI MS-6117 PSS: sorry my english I'm from Finland |

did you twist the 4 middel lines from the SLI cable?
did the other card run alone too? |

Hmm...seems you have some problems... ::)
1. It doesn't matter if the two V2 cards are identical - although you are correct that is is better. V2 cards can be SLI configuration with different V2 cards using 'mismatch' drivers such as "FastVoodoo2". ;) Quote:
2. One of your cards seems faulty - test the card in another mainboard, if it still won't work then replace the card before you try and SLI. :'( Quote:
3. Seems your mainboard does not like Voodoo 2 cards, except in PCI slot 1 for some reason? ??? 4. Be sure your SLI cable is as short as possible (the distance between two V2 cards in adjacent PCI slots). ;) |

Ok I maybe get a new motherboard soon, maybe even with 2*CPU slots :D , I should try with it then. What drivers should I use. It needs to be fit all V2 cards.

"FastVoodoo2" drivers are the best. ;)
Go to: - http://www.3dfxzone.it Look at the left menu and scroll down and click on "Voodoo 2". :) On the new page click on "Drivers" :) Then choose your operating system and it will give you the appropriate link for the best version of "FastVoodoo2" :D Good luck! 8) |

ok I tried the non working V2 alone again with the same motherboard. and used 3dfx Voodoo2 V3.02.02 again, in screen setup i clicked voodoo2 settings, and it gave me this: " _GlideInitEnviroment: glide2x.dll expected voodoo^2, none detected " seems to be that my V2 card is broken?? :'( I'll wait the other motherboard and try fastvoodoo2 drivers. or is there anything to do?
I bought this V2 from finnish ebay-like netsite and the seller didn't tell that he won't sure does it work or not >:( or could I have broke the card, cuz in that day temperature was below zero outside, and the was arrived in the morning and I picked mail after 8pm and I waited ½-1hour that card would get warmed. Should I have waited more time? :-[ |

Your card is toast! :'( Broken, history, totalled! :'( It's nothing to do with the cold, as half an hour is more than enough to get rid of any condensation! ::) Looks like the card was broken to begin with... :P |

Nooooooooo :'(

Oh my god, the previusly working V2 didn't run 3dmark99 properly, the screen flapped like low refreshing rated and glitters, but the screen shots looked like normal :o I've played with these drivers and could drivers be the problem, I tried F1 Racing game, with no problems, but it was older than V2, I suppose. please don't tell me that this one is too broken. This kind of shit eats my enthusiasm. Could the broken V2 destroy the other one?? :'( :'( :'(

Well, technically said it is possible. You just need to take the one (not working) card and trash it hard enough into the working one ;D |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by Mansfield on 14.11.06 at 08:58:50
so could it be software problem, how could I clean my windows from V2 drivers to install new ones. 3dmark99's demo doesn't work anymore, because it wants double buffering(or what it was, I dont remember it now), and before this problem I could have run it with no problem. I suspect that the alone V2 works alone ín SLI ??? although I have disable SLI mode
Or maybe it's in the 3dmark99? I should try Delta Force 2 8) to check is there something wrong Got today new V2 ;D |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by Mansfield on 14.11.06 at 19:01:16
ok i got new V2, and the other(the working) is allright :D
but the other is creative's 3dblaster and the other techworks' Power3d2 do I have the use those mismatched V2 sli drivers ??? |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by elfuego on 15.11.06 at 00:23:00 wrote on 14.11.06 at 19:01:16:
Yes, but I don't think that is going to be much of a problem. Allmost every newer driver takes care of that "mismatched" thing. Fastvoodoo takes care of that, as far as I know. :) |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by paulpsomiadis on 15.11.06 at 04:00:17
FastVoodoo 2 drivers are already mismatched - just grab them and do a clean install! ;)
WHEEE! Off you go... ;D |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by Mansfield on 15.11.06 at 12:09:35
Ok but Can I use 3dfx Voodoo2 V3.02.02 drivers, it seems that I have to clean my system from other V2 drivers to install fastvoodoo driver, but I'm so lazy that I have no intrests to do that :)
|
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by paulpsomiadis on 16.11.06 at 05:22:03
Don't be lazy! >:(
If you are it will cause you problems with the drivers! ::) First remove BOTH your voodoo 2 cards from your mainboard. ;) 1. Get Driver cleaner (older version NOT "Pro Version") 2. Run it and select "3Dfx" and click CLEAN...then wait. 3. Run CAB Cleaner from the "tools" menu - click CLEAN and wait longer. (close the program when it finishes) 4. Extract the FastVoodoo 2 drivers and shut down the PC. 5. Insert the first Voodoo 2 into your mainboard. 6. Boot your PC. 7. When Windows "Auto detects" the Voodoo 2 say NO to the auto install. 8. Run the FastVoodoo 2 installer - if you get any messages asking "do you wish to continue?" - then continue anyway and install. 9. Reboot the PC when asked. 10. Power OFF when you get back to the BIOS screen. 11. Insert the second Voodoo 2 and link them with the SLI cable. Then connect the passthrough cable from the SECOND Voodoo 2 (the second one you inserted) to the main GFX card. 12. Boot the system. 13. When Windows detects the second Voodoo 2 and asks to install the drivers again - continue to install. 14. If everything went well, you should now have SLI mode funtioning! PHEW! ::) :P Come back and let us know how you get on... :) |

do you mean that I have to connect like this instead of this EDIT: I'm going to change other hard ware to P3 800Mhz +3*128MB +14,7 Gb +ATI Rage xl 8mb so I don't need to clean my system ;D |

Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by paulpsomiadis on 18.11.06 at 21:34:37
If the passthrough cable gives you NO OUTPUT by connecting it to Voodoo 2 card 1, then try it the other way. ;)
Tecnically, it shouldn't matter which V2 you link the passthrough to, as they are in SLI. ;D But (as with all electronics) sometimes it does matter. ::) Try it out - it will work one of the ways anyhow! ;) |
Title: Re: Need help with my Voodoo2 SLI Post by Mansfield on 19.11.06 at 20:43:21
OK today I battled against my SLI.
Result: 2-1(HW vs I) > 1-0 I got the system totally crashed down, and totally it gave me this old damned report:" _GlideInitEnviroment: glide2x.dll expected voodoo^2, none detected " >:( but it was only driver problem (got fastvoodoo and 3dfx drivers at the same time) > 1-1 I got it working after format c: > 2-1 because I get enough from fastvoodoo's drivers, I tried 3dfx Voodoo2 V3.02.02 drivers for sli, but it gave me error. could be repaired if i'll reorganize cables I'll try tomorrow more. btw. I tried install fastvoodoo but it didn't install its own settings to display settings in contol panel, why? should I install some extra apps.??? |

Glad to be of assistance! :)
I would have helped more - but it's best to learn some of this stuff by yourself (then if if goes wrong, you can fix it easier - maybe...) ::) Anyhow - now go kick some @$$ in U.T. <SLI> mode! 8) ==EDIT== BTW - what language is your Windows 9x? ??? |

OF course. And it sucks in speed, but it's great to do a image quality test. You can try out the newest radeon/geforce cards and make a few screenshots with the best possible quality and then do the same with voodoo. I'll wager you're going to be speechless for a while. It's like a comercial for contact lenses 8) |

Nah - MesaFx is mostly for Voodoo 3/4/5 cards. :P If you have a Voodoo 2 SLI setup and want better OpenGL then go to @Falcons 'drivers' section and download WickedGL. ;) This will improve performance for games like: - Quake 1, 2, 3 Hexen 2 Half Life etc... 8) |

Easy solution - leave it there and just don't use it! :D |

I solved the problem. I reinstalled Fastvoodoo2 drivers and it works well now. There was no need to uninstall OC program. maybe I will overclock the hole system now to its limits ;). Now I 'm playing games for ex. Op. Flashpoint, Baldurs gate2, Quake 3 well with it
