Wide screen and V5 5500
12.01.09 at 00:28:47

How does V5 5500 cope with wide screen resolutions? As far as I can remember, 3dfx only supported normal 4:3 resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200.

What about 1400x1050, or 1280x800 or similar? I went yesterday to Media Markt/Saturn to get a cheap new monitor and literally every single one was wide screen!  Sad Do new drivers allow custom resolutions?

it should be relatively easy to add custom resolutions, either with powerstrip or by some registry hacking (it has been done before)..note: the max supported dvi resolution is 1600*1200,that means 1680x1050 wont work..lower res on the dvi should be ok.

I have a V4 4500 running on XP connected to my new Sony 52" LCD via the VGA port.  The drivers automatically detected the 1080 res and I was able to run 1920x1080.  Problem is everything is super tiny and it's hard to read even text from 10 feet away.  The start button was only 1 inch tall!  1360x768 ended up being a much better resolution to use.  I used powerstrip to set it up.

But remember, this was all done using the VGA port.  I once tried to use the DVI port on a V5 PCI MAC card and used a DVI - to - HDMI cable to connect it to my older HDTV.  It was it was stuck at some super low res and really didn't work well at all.  I even tried powerstrip, but I don't think it wanted to really work right.

Can you not get a cheap monitor from eBay? I've got a CRT just for testing purposes.

Mine was only £10, and shipping was very cheap too. Smiley

The problem is that I really dont have enough space for a CRT monitor. As the matter affect, I dont even have enough place for a big TFT - I'm living in a 4x2.5m student room Wink Here I'm currently working on a 7" EeePC  Cool

I found in Media Markt some cheap viewsonic monitors (about 120-140e) with 1280x800 and a VGA connector - can powerstrip "strip" the V5 to this resolution? I only have VGA output on my new V5.

Thanks!

It seems that VSA 100 is supporting natively non 4:3 resolution.
Look at the V4 box :
