Title: Voodoo 1 on Athlon XP won't run - any advice? Post by vlask on 01.06.10 at 21:44:06
Testing again on mine testing mobo Soltek SL75-KAV with via KT133A and Athlon XP 2200+ some voodoo cards. Can't get runing Voodoo 1 card and also Quantum3D Obsidian2 SLI2. Some months ago some people told me, that voodoo 1 probadly never run on this configuration. So question is - is some chance to get it running with any special driver or setting in bios? Tried it with old win 98se with dx9c installed, then instaled brand new win98se again on other hdd and left there original dx6.1, with no succes. Card is canopus pure 3D 6Mb version. With original canopus cd win95 drivers i got this...
when i installed IceMan Win9x Driver(V3.01.01) without opengl reg file clicking i got this.. After registering opengl.reg i ended same as seen on 1st image. Card was tested on k6-2 system and reported as working. Some months ago i was testing also other more common cards like a diamond 4mb and always ended same way. 2D card is S3 Trio64V+ 1Mb pci (already realised that Voodoo 2 cant properly swith with S3 trio 3D AGP). |

I got the same error trying to run Carmageddon 1, and i've solved putting the Glide2x.dll and Glide2x.ovl into the Carma folder.
My symptoms were a bit different, because my V1 ran perfectly under W98SE using the latest reference drivers on ANY game, but games that require MS-DOS direct access shown that issue until I put those two files in the folder of the game. Hope you could understand me, my english isn't so good (hablo espaņol) Ill keep reading, I have right now a P3 1Ghz running a V1... good luck! |

I read somewhere sometime ago, that getting this error means, that the card is just dead. Not sure though ;)

Yes, in some cases it means that your memory modules or the chip is dead. But, i got the same problem in my new/old rig (Compaq Mobo, 1Ghz P3 370, 512mb 133) The reason? I don't know why, maybe some incompatibilities with the Mobo/3dfx combination, because in my 233MMX rig the V1 run flawless.. In the meantime, I keep trying to figure out what is going. Saludos! |

Your miles may vary with Voodoo 1's and 'new' systems. In the past my overclocked Athlon XP (nForce2, 2.53GHz, 1024MB DDR) worked just fine with an A-Trend Voodoo 1. As far as I can recall it did not work with every Voodoo 1 out there so it's not only a matter of the motherboard/CPU but also the Voodoo card.
If you're using 1024MB RAM, try removing 512MB. Downclocking the FSB (and CPU along) to 100MHz (DDR200) might also help to improve compatibility. |
