Hello everybody! I digged out the components of my old pc and I found I had a Maxi Gamer 3D (Guillemot), which is incompatible with Win 2k. I have some questions about the 3dfx cards, would be nice if someone could make me see clearer in the world of "old" 3d cards 8)


1) If I have, for example, a 3dfx video card, AGP or PCI, like a Voodoo 2 or above (so it's Windows 2000 compatible), can I install on the same pc a 3dfx accelerator card, like a Voodoo 2 (not mine, because it's not Windows 2000 compatible)? If I can use a Voodoo card + a Voodoo accelerator, which drivers must I use?

2) Can I use Win 9x drivers on Win 2000 (stupid question I know but still... never know)?

3)Can I couple an AGP voodoo card with a PCI voodoo accelerator, or an AGP + AGP, PCI + AGP, PCI + PCI?

What do you guys suggest to put on a mid-old pc to play old and not-so-old games? A Voodoo 3/4/5 + an accelerator  voodoo 2/3 (don't remember if voodoo 3 exist in accelerator)? Is voodoo card compatible with DOS games?

Some answers:


1) It is not possible to use a 3dfx 2D/3D Card (e.g. VRush, VBanshee, V3, V4, or V5) with a 3dfx 3D Accelerator (V1, or V2).

I suspect your reasonings behind this are for a combination of performane boosts.  Sorry, but it doesn't work that way.

2) No.

3) No.  The only combination that would work here is PCI+PCI (this being a Voodoo2 SLI of course, or the rare Quantum Voodoo1 cards that pair up).

Voodoo cards are compatible with DOS games, to certain degrees.  Depending on the game and the compatibility of the card with the game.

Thanks, my thoughts about Voodoo cards were a bit messed up.
