Interesting!!

It works on the 200SBi in windows NT4 with so that may not be so hard to find since we can compare the two.

I wonder why they disabled it.

I noticed that on my TV it was rolling pretty bad on the Mercury but the 200SBi looked actually pretty good during the boot process.

Maybe they couldn't get it to work acceptably so that was their reason for disabliling it???

Did yours look not up to the 200SBi standard. As you know I haven't had my Merc. up long enough to consider it fully functional yet.

It has a rolling screen during boot up but as soon windows starts it's normal.

I may do a line by line boot-up and see at one point the TV out is cut off and then look into that area.

I do have the other GX board setup with a single 200SBi, just have not head the chance to look things over yet, too pressing with the holidays and everything else going on.

Had another question for you on the Mercury.

In the display properties "Obsidian" tab if I check the "wait for vertical retrace" box and then press "test" I get a black screen and have to reboot. Uncheck I can successfully run the test. Is this the same on yours.

I have a .pdf file from Q3D on Swaplock and it mentions something about looping swaplock in and out together. I think there's a relationship here?

Your thoughts?

Gary,

If I'm ever luckly enough to find a case like yours, I'll need to try to duplicate those overhead fans. I can get a pretty good look at them here http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/q3d_mercury/q3d_mercury_open_large.jpg but I was hoping that maybe next time you have the hood up you might take some pictures of the fan assembly itself and add the to your FAQ page? Is that a wingnut attaching the fans to the tail assembly of the Mercury sub-System? Coming up with the fans should be easy, but the mounting brackets will will prove to be challange.

If eventually all attempts to lett the mercury display on a TV. You can still use a VGA to PAL converter so that the signals are just converted, and some new TV's can handle VGA signals through the Scart port.

AAlchemy was available in multi-channel configurations but that was just for multiple monitors. Having extra cards doesn't decrease rendering time since every card is linked to it's own monitor.

AAlchemy systems were identified by letters- GX, TX, QX, SX. Best thing to do is download the manuals from Quantum3D and each one explains the differences in the systems plus has pretty pictures to take notes of =)

I'm going to build a AAlchemy GX system- Quantum3D was running an upgrade program for Mercury owners call Mercury Rising that replaced the Mercury brick with a single 8164 board. Since I know the ins and outs of a Mercury system and have a single AA5 board, building an AAlchemy GX system thats fairly original looking should be a snap.

Only real hold up is power supply for the card which is being worked on (waiting on pcpowerandcooling.com for a quote)

Yes I'm excited to be playing soon, one wonders what will run under Win2000 and 8164 and how it will look. If Mercury is any indication just about ANYTHING OpenGL or Glide will run on the hardware.

So why are people making a fuzz about putting 4 Aalchemy 8161 card together as a whole? I was always convinced Quantum3D named it Aalchemy 8464 and it would't be easy to get such a system. I even read about these systems costing 40.000$

And now you tell me that putting 4 together has hardly any performance gain, what a dissapointment  Sad

Anyway, Gary is you Aalchemy provided with all the daughterboards that Iwellius had? He had two extra boards connected if I'm not mistaking.

Well it would be an impressive array, I can inquire but the Quatum3D manuals clearly state each card just renders part of a scene (left/right/center for example)

That would make sense as Heavy Metal systems were sold with 3 200SBi's sync-locked together for three channel display or you could of course sync-lock 3 Mercurys together for multi channel display.

Quantum3D hardware isn't immune to time any more then any other PC hardware. What was state of the art 5 years ago is now in a landfill.

All I have is the single board, the "daughterboards" are just PCB for the power wiring. No doubt to keep prying fingers away from the power connectors while running since a single 8164 draws 30 amps on the core voltage line.

There also was options for hardware monitoring, I don't have any of those pieces.

gdonovan,

Do you plan to have a FAQ section for the AAlchemy system as you have done for the Mercury System on your web page?
