Title: Question what is faster? Post by Combatman on 28.02.06 at 02:28:50
Voodoo 4 or Voodoo 5 which one is better? I know voodoo5 has the dual chip thing going on but it just buffers frames around the two so it is only worth a 32mb card. Voodoo 4 is a 32mbcard and one chip. Is it technically faster?

Yes, but the Voodoo5 has two VSA-100, the Voodoo4 only one.
Therefor one can select 4x FSAA (Voodoo4 only 2x FSAA) or use the almost doubled power for framerate. Additionally, the Voodoo5 is the only card to offer T-Buffer, Motion Blur and Depth of Field effects (although I know of no game except the T-Buffer modified Quake 3 Demo that uses these effects natively) |

It does but the Voodoo 5 splits the workload between the two chips. I can assure you the Voodoo 5 will have no problem beating a Voodoo 4 in many programs. The question was "which is faster" and the V-5500 clearly is. |

just a quick example, found by google:
Descent 1024x768x16 Bit Voodoo 5 5500 141FPS Voodoo 4 4500 81FPS Voodoo 3 3000 72FPS (tested on Intel Pentium III 600 Mhz, 128 MB SD-Ram, Windows 98 ) http://www.pc-erfahrung.de/Index.html?3dfxVoodoo4und5.html |
