All I have is the single board, the "daughterboards" are just PCB for the power wiring. No doubt to keep prying fingers away from the power connectors while running since a single 8164 draws 30 amps on the core voltage line.

There also was options for hardware monitoring, I don't have any of those pieces.

This is what I mean  Cheesy

No- The 8164 shown is of very unusual configuration, I have seen nothing like it mentioned in the manuals.

It looks pretty Cool! But also look like it will take up 4 slots.

Bad news- No direct X rendering titles for Mercury!

None of the V2 drivers support Direct X under NT or 2000, and I mean NONE. Even the 3dfx beta reference drivers (just glide or opengl)

Not even the weirdo 1.00.00b driver which doesn't support passthrough and has no glide or OpenGL support?  ???

I've got DirectX titles that will only run on my 200SBi under Windows 98SE because they can't cope with my primary card's 256MB memory (6800 GTS).  The Organic Art screensaver, which Microsoft actually distributed for a while, is one!

But a Mercury's never going to run on cranky old DOS-based operating systems.

I envy you with your experimentation although it must be frustrating sometimes.

98lite with
629K
of free conventional memory in full DOS mode using QEMM 9.0 (or 628K with UMBPCI.SYS providing real mode for FastVid) with SmartDrive, CD-ROM, CuteMouse, sound support and UniRefresh all loaded high.

I just did a quick sweep of the general V2 drivers available on 3dfxzone, all of them state Glide or OpenGL only.

If you were building a non-original system it would be no big deal, just install a GF2 for the main card. An orignal Mercury system only has a 2D Cirrus Logic on board however, limits my options Wink

Just NT and 2000 so far, though I have not tried under 98 (other issues raise their ugly head under Win9x)

Sometimes it's fun (when you can get something working!) other times it's a PITA (now why doesn't this work?!)

Like Descent 3 for example- The game hooks into something that tells it a glide board is installed, I have not found out just what yet and still can't get it to work under NT.

Well, 3dfxzone just doesn't have the "right" Driver, that's it Wink

Check the Archive and read the ReadMe File of the Win2k V1.00.00b Driver, if Win2000 is installed.
Requires a dirty workaround and imposes several limitations, but there, the Voodoo2 is able to render Direct3D to some extend.

I thought Koolsmoky had just released a winxp direct3d capable V2 driver? He has contacts with 3dfxzone.it why not implement koolsmoky's driver with the fastvoodoo2 xp.

I'll look into it but if it's not written for Mercury a moot point.

I'm afraid when you intend to run an OS that no official Mercury Driver exists for (I assume no official Win2000-Drivers exist) , you'll probably have to "mix&match" anyway.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how far you can get with it Smiley

Well 2000 is close enough to NT4 that the drivers work (but no control panel tab) I don't think that I'm going to tinker around too much trying to get Direct X working. I don't know enough about how windows and the drivers work to start editing things.

I think I can live without an "Obsidian" tab in the Display Properties of the Control Panel. That is, if the trade off is better game compatiblity Wink

I'm just picky, be nice if it worked but something of a non-issue if there is no advantage to me running 2000.

So far there isn't and I'm starting to learn my way around NT and get comfortable. About the only issue I have now is that using IPX for networking it doesn't see the Win98 machines for some reason but they don't have a problem seeing the NT box.

IPX? That's like for Novell Netware. Why not turn on TCP/IP
