3dfx cards in Apple PowerMAC systems
10.07.13 at 00:06:48

Hi all,

Since I have in my collection quite a few cards compatible with apple systems I went in search of a PowerMac system to test them on. I had a specific model in mind the PowerMAC G4 Gigabit since it had AGP2x and 64bit PCI33 slots. See other models here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Mac_G4

With a little bit of luck I found locally an Apple PowerMAC G4 system with dual PowerPC7400 @450Mhz, 1.25GB PC133@100, DVD-ROM drive, 1x 120GB HDD, 1x 80GB HDD and nVidia FX5500 128Mb VGA.
The system came with MAC OSX 10.4.11 but there aren't drivers for 3dfx cards for OSX only OS9. So I went in search of a way to have both OSs installed. I found the details of doing this here:

I installed OS9.2.2 on the second HDD and set the boot from OSX to Classic and so got my V5 MAC PCI working on this system.
...
I had some fun with UT99 on it but Tomb Raider proved to have graphic glitches.

I'd like to hear your experience with 3dfx cards on Apple systems.

Cheers,
