RTCW and wickedGL
15.11.02 at 21:25:49

I've read some things about wickedGL, but it is not clear to me if RTCW can be improved with it, since this game is not listed in some release notes.  Anyway, the 1024X768 resolution bug can be by-passed ?
      Thanks for any answer !

When i remember right (i deleted RTCW from HD after i played through on my Voodoo1) the two files in the GL subdirectory are special-versions of wgl, one optimized for voodoo3 and one for voodoo4/5. I havn't checked the version numbers but i am sure they were higher than the last non-shareware-beta 2.99 of wicked-gl. If you want to try an ohter wgl or opengl driver move these two files to a directory where RTCW can't find em and copy the wgl-highres file to the dir containing the RTCW exe's and name it to opengl32.dll. I have an ATI RAGE PRO and a Voodoo2 where RTCW defaults at first to the ATI OpenGL where it crashes. The problem can be solved by copying the 3dfxv(o)gl.dll (or wgl) to the RTCW directory as opengl32.dll. By the way when RTCW can't find a valid opengl32.dll in it's dir or the gl-subdir and no one is defined in the registry at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Curent.../Opengl... the game falls back to 3dfxvgl.dll in systemdir. I think all Q3engine games (Q3A, Jedikníght) have this behavor.

I hope this helps you a little bit with tweaking,
Andreas

Thank you Andreas. Now, talking about Q3 engine:
I can play it smoothly here at 1024X768, but in RTCW I can't get more than 800X600.  This bug is listed in the release notes of RTCW.  Strange, isn't ?

Yeah kill the 2 drivers in the rtcw gl folder , and replace them with a new good 3dfxogl , i use a voodoo 3 3000 with the stilupmix 3dfxogl or even some good ogl `s . For ogls i`ve used version 1.0.0.0 or 3dfxogl 1.0.0.630 . Just experiment a bit some do the lighting better than others and the speeds good at 1024X768 . i don`t know what they were thinking with those junk drivers in the gl dir !

It works !  I've just replaced OpenGLv3.dll and OpenGLv5.dll with koolsmoky OpenGL32.dll, in RTCW gl folder.  Now it runs smoothly in 1024X768, with some minor lighting issues.
Thank you all!

I´ve tried the last wickedGL dll (3.02) instead of the Koolsmoki´s, but it always skips to the desktop just before the action begins. Has anybody achieved to play RTCW with wickedGL ?
I´m using WIn98/DX9b/1.07.00 WHQL and Voodoo3.
Regards!

I only ever played RtCW with my Voodoo5, and it ran quite flawless (without WickedGL).

Never ran it on a Voodoo3 though, so I'm not sure what Problems could arise (only 16MB, 256x256 Texture limit)

I'd play with the Advanced Options (e.g. enable "Force FXT1 Compression, disable Triple Buffering, MipMap Dithering etc. for testing).

Also, see if the .ini File of the Game allows to manually disable all 3D Features, and then Increase them again step-by-step. That's usually the best way to apprach Games, that don't run correctly on default settings.

No sucess, I´ve even compared the Quake CFG file with Wolfenstein´s in order to find some significant difference,
but as long as I´ve gonne, the file is too large, they are almost the same. It´s strange because Quake runs GREAT with WGL here.
Thanks !

strange.

I ran RTCW on voodoo2, voodoo2 SLI and voodoo5  with wickedGL, without any problem.
Except the resolution bug : I can't go farther than 800x600, either on V2 SLI or on V5  Tongue

I managed to get 1024x768x16 with Wickedgl: once inside the game go back to system/graphics and rise the resolution, it will keep the setting.  I know it seems too complicated but I assure you will not be sorry, the IQ, just as in Quake, is amazing.  I wonder if it will happen in every quake powered game.  Don´t forget to turn back the resolution before you quite, he...,he...,he...

i`ve used wicked gl 302 on a voodoo5 and ran it on a voodoo 3 same type of result , lighting problems

even enemy territory can be tricked into running well
with wicked gl otherwise you get a very blurred menu running default

max 1024*768 on both v3 v5
