Title: "Groovy" Demo added :) Post by FalconFly on 26.10.03 at 01:09:06
One more Farbrausch 3D Demo has been added :
FR-025 "The Polular Demo" (8MB) http://www.falconfly.de/coolstuff.htm This one not only features a nice Soundtrack, but is also a DirectX9-Demo (using Overbright Lighting Effects). It ran fairly well on a Voodoo4 however (and still looked good :) ), only the lack of fast AGP transfer speeds take a toll on performance inbetween scenes when swapping lots of real-time generated Textures. Also includes a nifty Benchmark Option, as well other Options to run on lower performance Systems. |

Will there be another demo like the "Poem to a horse" 64Kb one? Nonetheless, this new 8Mb demo is looking very good!!!

Hm, now that you say it, I indeed could add all the Farbrausch Demos :)
I just "threw it in" (fr-25) because I haven't checked their Site for a long time, and found this one the most impressive. (but I haven't tested any other of their Releases on 3dfx Cards, so if anyone has good Info on how well they run/or if at all, go ahead and write your Results) Since I'm not at home for a while, Patience would have to add those to the Archive. And if you have other suggestions of nice Demos that still run on 3dfx Cards, we may add those as well :) |

Hey Patience,
I really love the nature demo. Have you ever managed to run it on V3/V4/V5 ? |

I am aware only of a slight problem with the Banshee running "Poem to a horse", which makes it to revert to the desktop before the demo is fully loaded. Probably d3d drivers 1.04 are the big problem. On other cards it is an excelent quality test and speed benchmarking utility. A must for any 3D demos enthusiast, because it shows the best you can get, no bugs, no jaggies... |

Anyway, still there is a wonder of a strange effect of "Textures cannot be loaded" on the Farbrausch disco demo... Why that error on a PRO SavageDDR? Since it has DXT capability, AGP texturing????

As I said : I guess it's likely the S3 Savage Driver, and I seriously doubt the Farbrausch coders had one for testing...

Probably. I have send this report to S3, and I am waiting for their answer. I don't know the exact sollution to this problem, but I guess it is not just the DX9 part that is problematic. Remember the BloodRayne: failed to start thing? Same failure to start in both OpenGL and DX9.
Probably it is a "slightly" more complex situation with compatibility with DX9 and OpenGL... |

Finally, with DX9.0a and the latest drivers, yes, this "Party" demo is working extremely well on the ProSavageDDR. So, the card can use some of the DX9 capabilities. There were no glitches, and, sincerely, I can say that it looked better than on Radeon 9000, at the same resolution, although no Pixel Shader or Anisotropic filtering, has been created by the card!!!
I wonder what score did the V5 or V4 that run the game, offered in the final screen... |
