V5500 & XP, both VSA Chips used?

I have a V5500 PCI that I am going to move from Windows ME to a used 3Ghz Dell with XP. I thought I read somewhere that XP does not recognize both chips and that it would basically be a 4500. Any truth, or do I need a newer set of drivers?

Also, I pulled the fan/heatsinks off as one was starting to go south. The glue was badly applied by 3Dfx also. I know that Tennmax has the Stealth V3 available yet at $20.00 each, but is there anything else? I am also going to install some heatsinks on the memory chips. Bye.

Actually in WinXP all of the 3D power of the card is unusable with the default windows drivers.
I suggest that you install either AmigaMerlin V3.1-R11 (good overall drivers, I'm using them while looking at this post) or the latest SFFT drivers (more suitable for newer D3D games) u can get them both here: http://www.falconfly.de/vsa100.htm
(on the bottom there is a list of XP compatible drivers for your card including these I mentioned)

About cooling, if you dont care about the original look, there are quite some aftermarket coolers available but be careful because lots of them don't fit onto the card. (In my opinion those tennmaxs are not a best buy but they will do in case u decide for them, but still... there are a lot of niftier ones out there)

I have an old Vantec on a V3000 that the pin holes did not match up too well with and the pins look as if they are about ready to pop off anytime with the angle they are at. I purchased a coupld of Thermaltake blue orb heatsinks, and I am unable to get the holes anywhere close for the pins to go in. There is not enough material in the orbs to drill a bigger hole and use bolts and plastic washers. Any other solutions that line up with the holes besides the Tennmax? Thought about regluing, but I am not sold on that idea.

Vantec Iceberq (Copper)

Those are what I have on my V5 5500 right now. They fit fine and look pretty nice, plus they don't don't block any other PCI slots. They're a little noisy, but not bad. I think you could slow them down a bit with a fan controller and still get adequate cooling (since the H/S is copper), but I haven't tried.

Before that, I was using Zalman NB32 passive heatsinks. They fit perfectly as well, but you need to make sure you get the newer model (with stepped clips), because the old version had crappy mounting clips.

The Zalmans looked GREAT, but you need a case fan blowing air over them for sufficient cooling. I had a nice quiet, low-RPM 120mm fan blowing air over the card from the end, and it worked fine.

There are pictures of my setup with the Zalman coolers in this thread. I don't have any pictures of the card with the Vantec copper coolers.
