Hm, that's a normal Voodoo5 5500 PCI
There were only 2 Versions, one for the PC, and one for Apple Macintosh labeled "MacVoodoo" (this Version has a DVI Connector). On EBay you should find some popping up from time to time, :) |

That's a normal V5 5500 PCI. Another version has additionally a DVI interface and was built for the MAC.
There a several V5 5500 PCI on ebay. |

1 and 3 are the same; it's the US box.
V5 5500 PCI US V5 5500 PCI Euro V5 5500 PCI For Macintosh (US) VoodooMac 5500 PCI (Euro) This image is, what I believe to be, just a promotional image. I've never seen one of these boxes anywhere but on this image: |

@NitroX - You said the bottom box looks different, but it just looks like a DARKER picture of the EURO V5500. ;)
But REALLY, really darker! 8) |

Also check the colouring of the numbers.
On the 'Euro' box '5500' has a green colour. On the 'Promotional' box '5' has a green colour. ;D Just remembered something: PCI: coloured 5500 AGP: coloured 5 So the bottom one is a promotional image :) |

Paul is right here. It's just coloured differently in the photo that Dark_God produced. Nitrox, remember the VoodooTV FM pic with the yellow text? When the original boxes have pinky orange text? (As seen in my photo here of my two VoodooTV's) http://www.jstorey.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/IM000858.JPG Again, a discolourment problem in the photos produced. There was no promotional box, this is merely a colour error. It would also prove not to be a promotional box as the US box version was released BEFORE the Euro box. A promotional image of the V5 box would surely look more similar to the US version rather than the Euro version. In this case it does not. Dark_God, what you are after seems to be the Euro box, but neither the US or the Euro version are different in terms of how the cards operate. The box changes are purely marketing decisions made by 3dfx. The difference between the PC and MAC versions of the cards (as shown by Nitrox) is the presence of a DVI output on the MAC cards. These cards can be ported for the use in a PC by flashing them with a PC BIOS variant. |

@Dark_God - To help you in what you are looking for, here are two photos taken by me, of my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI. It's brand new and fully sealed. Never opened and never will be! :)

@janskjaer :
Check my post before your's. Voodoo 5 5500 With AGP the 5 is coloured. With PCI the 5500 is coloured. So this is not an official image as the colouring of the numbers is that of the AGP card while on the box it says PCI. |

Hmm...it appears NitroX DOES have a point! :o
The promotional box at the bottom has the writing of the USA V5500 PCI box... :P But the image is a DARK version of the EURO V5500 PCI box... :P Strange indeed! ??? |
Title: Re: Voodoo 5500 pci Post by Dark_God on 30.08.04 at 11:39:49
Thanks for all the information and replies .Hmm.....so I have to look for the *normal* euro version... and the bottom image does not show an existing box.....too bad(the darker version looks great ;D ).
@janskjaer Thats really interesting. Then itīs possible to run a v5 mac in a pc?....cool 8) .Can you tell me where to download the bios?Oh and what program I should use to flash the card? |
Title: Re: Voodoo 5500 pci Post by janskjaer on 30.08.04 at 18:48:32
@Nitrox - Ah, sorry, I never read your last post. Now I have, I see the difference in the colour of the '5' and the '5500'. Apologies. However, just colour in these two items is the only difference referenced in the photos. Do we know the "promo" image is real? ??? How do we know 3dfx made it? See, this could have been designed by anyone. But if it was done by 3dfx, this image would show the box between transisition from the US box to the Euro version.
@Paul - The text on the box is really nothing to go by as this part varies so much on the Euro boxes, not just the US box! The difference in text between the Euro/Spanish, Euro/English and Euro/German are largely different (I know, as I have owned all 3 of these boxes in the past! ;)). This can vary from the amount of lines of text under the 'Voodoo5 5500 PCI' title of the box, to the variation on the bottom left of the box. |

I don't know if the last image is a promotional image from 3dfx. I just called it that because lots of promotional pictures of boxes from 3dfx look like that.

@Dark_God - It is possible to flash the BIOS to make it run on a PC. You need to find a BIOS that is made to do this though. Unfortunately, I do not know where one lives as I have not needed to attempt this before.
I would imagine that nearly any BIOS flash program can be used (even apps like ATIFlash or even ones for nvidia cards). At the end of the day they just flash one BIOS to another. However, if you can get hold of a BIOS flasher deisgned for 3dfx cards in mind, I would recommend that. DISCLAIMER: Be advised, that you hold responsibility for any flashing one to your graphics card in the event that it goes pair shaped, and you screw it up. Instructions usually are included with each piece of flashing software. |
