Post by BFG3dfx on 09.09.05 at 02:39:23
Ok all you intel fan's, can i put a 478pin 800fsb P4 in a 478pin 533fsb mobo, if i can what is the result, such as does it run same mhz but lower 533fsb or does it just catch fire and burn my place down ???

First thing you should check is the 533 a Hyperthreader. I think all of the 800FSB chips are.

I had a friend ask me to take a look at his machine (just built) was running like a 133 He had a 3.06 hyper chip in a non-hyperthreading mobo. It was 533 to 533fsb so everthing was fine after a trip to Fry's to P U a new mobo.

Remark:
1. CPU internal core bus speed runs at 400/533MHz. 2. * Support Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. 3. Prescott/Celeron D processor are not supported

no use chancing it i guess, it will take a 3.o6 533fsb northwood, do you know if this is a good o/cer?

No, I won't overclock that good since the core is pretty old and already at a workable top. To overclock you'll get a few MHz but that'is.

You could also try to find an Intel Pentium 2,66GHz or 2,8GHz which will perform quite good.

BFG3dfx, what motherboard do you have?

I've heard the 2.4 800fsb O.C. well :-/

Donno since I mainly run AMD for OCing. Intel has been lagging lately in the MHz race.

Yeah, ain't it great ;D They're switching to a modified Pentium M architecture which will consume like a third of the power that a Prescott uses. (the new cores, not the current p-m)

i picked up a ss51g shuttle box, i was really trying to find a micro board for my v5 5500agp but all the ones made were too slow, so i got this shuttle, it takes the p4 3.06/533 tops but that will be cool, not really a intel fan but no choice on this one. nice thing about this board is shuttle checked it with the v5 5500 agp so im just waiting on my case(micro size) and then i'll have my micro slepper box, lol

and is it comparable to the Intel i845? qua performance?

dont really know about the perfomance yet as i havent got to use it yet, im waiting on a case for it and then i have to buy a cpu and some ram, this will be the first intel pc ive ever built for myself, ive built about 10 amd pc so far, my brother likes intel but my pc;s have always kicked his pc's a$$e$ lol. but for the micro case i needed a small mobo and amd didnt have anything good that was compatible with the v5 5500agp card, im really hoping this will be a good cpu, im either gonna get the 2.8 or the 3.06, im leaning towards the 2.8 because im gonna o/c it and i heard that was a good choice, but im not sure.

heeh AMD has been kisk'n itels but for eons since the launch of thier first K7 Athlon Slot 1 ;D

Yeah the Pentium4 2.80 Ghz Northwood seem to be great OC'ers indeedydo:) a my neighbour man accros the road has a 2.8 he used the stock Intel cooler and he OC'ed it to a nice 3.2ghz :) not bad. he chickened out after 3.2Ghz, I said come on push it up ! haha he didn't want to oh well.

But don't worry that 2.8 should do fine ;)
