Title: voodoo 2 win xp drivers
Post by Doom_Knight on 10.06.06 at 17:40:20
Hi,

I have an ATI Rage Pro 8 MB (AGP) and two voodoo 2 cards in SLI (PCI off course) mode.

I have windows xp professional installed on my computer and i'm looking for a good driver to install those voodoo 2 cards in SLI on my system.

So when I download the FastVoodoo Gold 4.0 driver, both my voodoo 2 cards will be installed?

Not exactly, you will have to run the installer of the driver first   :P Then, yes, one by one - both cards are going to be recognized and installed.  8)

you can better install the cards manually, one by one sepperatly, that should do your thing :)

The best procedure is... ;)

1. Insert card 1 into a PCI slot.
2. Install drivers for first card.
3. Insert second card into adjacent PCI slot and add SLI cable.
4. Second card will be recognised and installed on boot into Windows.

Nuff said! 8)

I installed all voodoo cards in their sockets: A voodoo banshee in AGP and two voodoo cards in PCI.

Now, a lot of games are experiencing trouble. Is there something to do about that?

Yes. You have two choices: You can either pull out banshee or the additional Voodoo cards.

The problem lies in drivers. Both Banshee AND Voodoo 1-2 cards use Glide2x.dll and Glide3x.dll. These dll's are different for these cards and they are overwritten when the other card's driver is installed. That makes the former driver obsolete and incomplete which makes the system unstable.

In fact, I had the same problem as you did. I tried to build a system with Voodoo 2 SLI and Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. Did nothing usefull, just reinstalled windows a couple of times.  8)

Now that I think of it, why would you use banshee in the first place, when Voodoo2 SLI leaves it in dust? It's the same chip and you have now 3 Voodoo 2's in your system. Why?  ???

WOAH there @Doom_Knight!

Okay, as @elfuego said - you CANNOT mix Banshee and V2 SLI cards.

It's an either / or situation.

1. Uninstall ALL your 3Dfx drivers and remove all the cards.
2. Find another (non 3Dfx) AGP or PCI card for your primary display.
3. Re insert your 1st Voodoo 2 and install it's drivers.
4. Insert your second Voodoo 2 and link in SLI.

Viola - you're done!

Given the choice, two V2 cards are better than a Banshee.

I replaced the banshee by an ATI Rage PRO.

But when I run quake 3 and I select voodoo acceleration, I crash back to the desktop and quake 3 gives an error message.

When I run Unreal Tournament, I have no problems.

Can anyone solve this problem?

take the 3dfxVGL.dll file from the 3dfx voodoo 2 drivers and place it in the quake 3 directory. Rename it "opengl32.dll" and fire up quake 3.

Alternatively, you could also install WickedGL for Quake 3 ;) 8)

I tried copying the file in the quake 3 directory but it isn't working. Quake 3 is still producing the same error.
