Title: 3dfx Velocity 100 & 200
Post by razrx on 11.08.10 at 21:44:38
Does anyone have some solid info on the 3dfx Velocity 100 & 200 cards?

I have a sealed Velocity 100, but I think I remember hearing that the Velocity 200 never made it to production.  More info would be nice as I came across this photo and it looks like there could have been a retail Velocity 200.

Velocity 100 turns up from time to time and they often only have 8mb vram and is the same as the voodoo 3 except for the disabled TMU. The 200 I have yet to see and I'll have to do my research on that one. I am doubtful it was produced in quantities.

12MB on a Velocity 200?

it have 16MB and use the same PCB as the Voodoo3 1000 AGP
the TMU on the Velocity 100 is deactivated by windows registry, easy to reactivate

Some good info.

However, I did find this: "3dfx sold this card under two names- Provided for sale through Gateway (noted on the bios chip as a V3-1000) it was called "Bonesteel", sold through 3dfx it was a Velocity 100. In either case it was a 143 mhz card with 8 megs of SGRAM and 1 Texture Management Unit disabled via the bios. The cards were identical except the Gateway boot screen identified the card as a V3-1000 and the 3dfx boot screen would state Velocity 100."

So a Velocity 100 = V3 1000 (just using a slightly modified video card BIOS + a different sticker on the BIOS chip)

So it seems that the Velocity 200 never made it to production then with only nine known prototypes.  I did see that other sites confirm the Velocity 200 has 16MB ram.

The box art is very cool.   8-)

:o

I always thought that the Velocity had 1TMU, 8Mb @143mhz while the V3 1000 had 2 TMU, 16Mb @125mhz !

Personally I think that it was down to cost and most being oem only it is not surprised that few were made.
