See this link for images-

See- http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/album51

Screenshots do not show the AA in effect- I bet that's why the screenshot function is disabled in Quake 3. You can clearly see it in use on the monitor by dropping the resoultion to 512 x 384. These pictures were taken at that resolution and then resized, a few pictures where taken with my digital camera to catch the anti-aliasing!

what about the speed? any benchmarks? or Mercury give only AA advantage?

Mercury is all about image quality, speed doesn't look to by anything fantastic.

What's odd is sometimes in Quake3test (3dfx t-buffer version) the frame counter drops into the low teens but the game is still buttery smooth.

Hypersnap 5 crashes under NT, 4 works but displays the same screenshots (No AA evident)

Must be something the can interupt the video signal coming from the cable.

Gary

p.s. A running Mercury rig is a great way to keep your office warm.

This is really something Gary Smiley Never knew that a Mercury set could do 4x FSAA automatic   Lips Sealed , That's wacko!

I suppose it is faster than a Voodoo2 Sli set of 2x 12MB in Quake3 Arena.

Is it possible that it might work in Win2KPro, because actually Win2K pro is WinNT5.0, i just wondered that.

Nice stuff, gary keep up the great news and progress Wink

Regards,

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Well that's what Mercury was designed to do!

I'd rather keep the setup with NT4 since the idea is to have a system "as shipped" from Quantum3D.

Though I had a thought last night while asleep- All the black brick Mercurys require a GX+ motherboard... but my green brick does not and runs fine on a BX board... which begs the question... will it run on a P4 platform?

hmmm.. rack-mount green brick system with dual P4's.

=)

Imagine the power, of that system, then you will really have the maximum power of the system. And you will maybe notice the performance of Sdram over Edo-ram.

Oh, very nice FAQ! Just a three weeks earlier and I won't let Mercury from eBay go from me - that time it looked risky to buy that without knowing any working systems that time:)

Actually, one of the most hardcore things I saw this year in industry... I'll post a link in our news on ModLabs.net when you will finish FAQ. Excellent work!

By the way, I saw a page with AAlchemy on your site but almost no information about card. Does it work?

1) Thanks, just something I roughed together in a few hours, someone needed the Medusa PCB pinouts so I thought I would start a complete page covering all aspects of getting a system operational. Will be much more polished in a few days.

2) Will take on AAlchemy after Mercury is "finished" in the next week. Still have to make up my mind to keep the other brick or not. If I do keep it I want to sync-lock the two units together in a rack.

Just a follow up- I have the green brick up and running on the GX+ board (dual P3-650's with a gig of ram) under Windows 2000.

There isn't any control panel, GLQuake won't run but Quake III will.

Using the current version of Q3 and the only demo, at 1024 x 768 46 fps is noted, 800 x 600 55 fps is noted. Quake 3 being a mhz hog I'm sure better numbers would be noted with faster cpu's and this is with anti-aliasing active of course.

Note- Not sure now if Mercury is using 2 or 4 x AA, I assumed from the visual quality is was 4x, will compare to a 5500 and see if I can determine.

Is Motion-Blur actually functional on the Mercury's V2 chipset? I know FSAA works on the Merc. but was unaware that T-buffer worked on the V2. I thought it was hardware dependent on the VSA-100 GPU.

Sure is functional, I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to hack the drivers and get the TV output enabled so I can run it out to video and post a nice mpg.

Did you notice that during the boot process the TV/out is functioning?

It isn't until I Ctrl-Alt-Del the enter the user passwork, this as soon as I hear the windows login .wav and see the Icons appear, then the TV/out shuts off Angry

Correct, I have TV out till the machine logs in. I suspect a change in the INF or the windows INI/registry  file will fix that.
