Title: mercury sub-systems from computer_md (ebay) Post by ps47 on 02.12.05 at 20:14:21
this guy (girl?) (computer_md) is selling lot of 3dfx/q3d stuff but always marks the items "sold AS-IS",I'm trying find out if those cards have at least a slight probability of being ok and working..
so..if you have any experience with q3d cards from this seller, please share them.I dont really like the idea of paying 500$ or more for a dead brick :P thanks ;) |
Title: Re: mercury sub-systems from computer_md (ebay) Post by gamma742 on 02.12.05 at 20:43:21 I had one "Brick" that I bought from Stephanie, (a private deal) right after she started selling them on eBay. I also bought a case from her and built my first mercury system, later sold on ebay. |

I would advise avoiding this seller at all costs, unless you like dead hardware and expensive shipping.

..so your brick was dead I assume? and what about the 200sbi cards? did they work when used as single or were they dead as well?
|

the shipping cost problem can be remedied, not a big deal.after reading the FAQ at the dodge garage (I should have done that much earlier ::)),I'm sure that there is almost no way a regular user can get it working without lot of hassle and additional costs.
@gdonovan: so your black mercury wont work no matter what.but are the single 200sbi cards dead as well? do they work when used in single card config or not? thanks.. |

..well,the mercury is in Europe, finally.the cards work as standalone, but some of them were damaged (heatsinks broken off),and the image quality is bad (seems like something is wrong with the analog output-shimmering on the edges of the screen, unsharp picture).I'll give him positive feedback cause he did me a favor with shipping, but the final words are: avoid this seller, unless you like broken hardware.just like gary said :P

How was it tested? Did you use the "Mercury I/O Connector P/N 650-0832-01A" to connect the AAlchemy Cap Module to the Medusa cable? Was the brick Black or Green?

Title: Re: mercury sub-systems from computer_md (ebay) Post by ps47 on 12.02.06 at 10:37:54
just standalone cards (black).and only two of them were tested for now.I dont think no-X (he has the system right now) has enough hardware available to succesfully test a complete brick.

I got my AGP Voodoo 2 from @computer_md as well... :)
...only problem is that I haven't got a mainboard that will let me test the card due to it's 'odd' shape... ::) ...I'll get round to it eventually! :P |

hmm looks in good shape heh big and heavy also.
but the truth can only be found when seen in action in a good working system. And I still stick to Gary's faith, he is right. computer_md is not to be trusted even the Jedi Council have lost trust in that user. You must do what you feel is right ofcourse. |
