Listing all cards is nearly impossible since there are so many different manufacturers who sold 3dfx-based products.
This site has loads of info though: http://www.no-x-files.webz.cz/3dfx.htm |

@bat21,
Welcome to this great forum, there are many friendly knowledgable people/collectors here to help with any questions you may have. Here's a quick & dirty list of chronologically released 3dfx cards : Voodoo 1 Voodoo rush Voodoo 2 Banshee Voodoo 3 Voodoo 4 Voodoo 5 Up to the voodoo 3, 3dfx did not manufacture cards, thus a large quantity of vendors (Diamond, Creative, Orchid etc) licensed 3dfx reference design's/gpu's. Around the voodoo 3 era 3dfx abandoned this business model (and partners) ??? and decided to acquire a board manufacturing company (STB), and began exclusively producing there own branded boards. If you go to General discussions > Who collects 3dfx cards on the board? you will get a very good start on all the different variations of cards (released and prototypes ;) |

@NitroX infinity,
You are technically correct, 3dfx did produce a branded voodoo 2 card. The point I was trying to make in my post was that starting with the voodoo 3, 3dfx changed there business model and were not licensing there technology to former/previous business partners. From what I have read in various articles this change in plans was in hindsight a really bad decision, it tied up money and caused substantial delays in upcoming/future product release dates which as we all know contributed greatly to 3dfx's demise. If I remember correctly 3dfx released this card much later than other company's voodoo 2 offering's. |

Wrong again ;) Several companies made Avenger (V3) based products and Napalm based products ;D |

And Asus and Powercolor made V3 and V4 products for sale in the markets outside the USA.

Ok, my use of "exclusively" in a previous post was somewhat misleading and it would have been better worded as "almost exclusively".
Except for what ? a handful of board makers/products after the STB acquisition, 3dfx wanted and did take control of the board manufacturing/sales side of the business. 3dfx's success came from focusing there efforts/resources on selling there technology to business partners, not wasting it trying to operate and maintain a board manufacturing facility also Non 3dfx manuctured/branded boards produced after this acquisition = Trivial Interesting 3dfx articles: http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=412 http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=413 http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=414 @NitroX infinity, Your right, I neglected to mention these other cards :-[ |
Title: Re: ALL OF THEM IN ORDER!!! Post by bat21 on 18.08.04 at 08:30:08 ;DTHIS IS WHY I DROP IN WHENEVER I CAN ALL THESE PEOPLE WILLING TO SHARE INFO .....AND NOT CHARGE IVE LEARNED MORE IN THE LAST FIVE MINS THAN A WEEK OF SEARCHING ??? question though 3dfx`s demise , was internal or was it the competition??? and back to the board i have creative banshee is there a pci excel. card that can attach to mine to improve performance??? i saw one on ebay and was gonna take a run @ it i think it said it connected to an agp card will check further ;Dhope everyone`s well later 8) |
Title: Re: ALL OF THEM IN ORDER!!! Post by NitroX infinity on 18.08.04 at 11:47:01
@Bat21:
3dfx' demise was caused by both: internal they made some bad decissions, external they couldn't keep up with nVidia's agressive production tactics. As for the second thing, you could hang a V2 on there but I don't know if you'll see a performance increase. |
Title: Re: ALL OF THEM IN ORDER!!! Post by bat21 on 18.08.04 at 13:24:42 really...... :'( i was looking for a solid reason togo after it ::) owell ill do it anyway atleast it will add to my stash nastalgia being what it is and all.....you said v2 ??? guy on ebay lists it as a voodoo 1000 pci same thing? or more wishful thinking on my part? sellr on ebay just got back to me and relisted it as a voodoo2 1000 pci with a 34 pin header on top ,also got some #`s s50-422v-02rev2 #s on primary chip marked 3dfx 500-0010-01 d60314.00be 9803-2004 taiwan 1001 standard board right? it seems im gonna have to figure out how to read these #`s so i can tell one from the other :-/ |
