Wondering if anyone has this board. Looking for a replacement for a system.

I dont, but I had a similar problem back in summer. I had P5k deluxe wifi, which somehow crippled itself with a chassis intrusion problem. I ditched the board after a few failed attempts to fix it and got myself a GA-x38 DS4. It offers somewhat newer chipset, seems reliable and most of all, award bios is much better then ami.
So, if I may, I would suggest dropping the idea of getting a P5K/P5Q - get either a completely new system (core i family) or an x38 board. You wont be disappointed. |

P45 seems the better overclocker, also, it has the 1CH10R which has AHCI, which I need for my SSD. My Q6600 still has plenty of life in it, I don't see the need to upgrade to i7 and have to get a new motherboard and ram. :)

I dont know about the P45 being a better OC, but I do know that my x38 board can work in AHCI SATA mode as well which I need for testing MAC OS X on PC ;-) As I said, I'm almost in the same situation as you, the only difference is that I use Q9550 instead. :)
The point is - dont limit yourself only with Asus or just P45 - there are other good boards out there too. Also, investing too much in the already 'old' hardware is questionable so dont pay too much for it. I got my board for 30e last summer ;) |

Thanks for that mate, I appreciate your comments. Yea I do agree with that. Just need AHCI for my SSD. I won't be going over the top, but the Q6600 does still so well for me, it's hard to justify upgrading. I'm single GTX 470 as well and still runs games really well. It clocks at 3.6Ghz under water on a crappy 680i, so performs quite well.
I didn't know the X38 supported AHCI as well, that's good to know. I had an in depth look into the P45, especially the Asus P5Q and I do actually want that board, it seems rock solid, and well priced. The P45 seems pretty decent. I did get a pm from somebody on here about one, so hope that works out! |
