Title: Mitsubishi EVO3 Gear Box searched!
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 19.08.05 at 21:37:28
Hello everyone, here a question from a good friend of mine, he needs help, so I hope that the 3dfx Archive would like to like to help the search :)

My friend has a Mitsubishi Colt GTi with a 140bhp engine and it's ECU is half dead, a new ECU kosts about 1500 euro's, so a second hand engine with a somewhat newer ECU would be a better proffit.

What he wants is a secondhand 195bhp 1.8 litre engine, his gearbox would work with that engine but it's on it's last legs [Hels] so the EVO3 Gear Box is meant to replace that! with out that EVO3 Gear Box, the Engine upgrade is not worth it.

This is what the topic is about., does anyone know where to get one of these rare gearboxes.

If you have any answers, please send me an email then I will forward them to my friend.

Cheers,

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

For an EVO 3, it's old enough.  But the greaboxes for such cars are not cheap, and easy to come by.

It's going to cost an arm and a leg for the engine, gearbox, AND then them both fitting.

If the Colt doesn't also have brakepads on the back 2 wheels, I'd recommend getting that looked into also, once you do the conversion.

To be honest, combining the effort required for searching, and the money involved, I'd scrap the idea and stick with a similar type engine.

Have you tried looking at modified ECU's in the UK? I know they are not as much as 1500 Euro's.  I'm sure you can get one a lot cheaper than that.

However, if you do decide to go with the EVO 3 gearbox,  the countries they are most popular in are UK and Japan.

The colt does have disc brakes on the back. It's already a GTi version with enough support for some extra power.

He wants to get a power upgrade anyway, the broken ecu is just another extra reason to go ahead with it anyways. Still I know the right gearboxes can be found in the uk/usa/aus bit I still can't find any listed on ebay.,

Ebay is not always the best place to look.

Try automotive sites such as:

http://www.247spares.co.uk/carpartsearch/?form=parts_browse&vehicle_type=car∂_condition=used&make=MITSUBISHI
