Videologic Vivid! and Vivid! XS

Hi everybody! It's been a while since my last topic, I feel like getting lost staying away from this peaceful forum.

Smiley

If you have something against PowerVR Series I, II and II then please quit this topic now!

Here's the last two cards I bought in 2005, both brand new in retail package (UK market).

A Vivid!, featuring PowerVR Series III Kyro I (32 MB) and a Vivid! XS, featuring PowerVR Series III Kyro II (32 MB).

Still haven't opened the packages!!!

That pic fits great on 1920x1200!

Grin

I always liked the Kyro II.  It was pretty impressive in many ways, not the least of which was that it could compete with my GF2 Ultra in several games.  The GF2 Ultra cost me $700 CAD.  A Kyro II could be had for what, at the time?  $150 CAD?

It didn't do so well in some games, but still, that was an impressive accomplishment considering that it used a significantly different approach to rendering.

WoW They are Nice Lux !!! very nice though not sealed but hay nice catch for the day allright Tongue and did you take a look inside of those boxes also to see if they are 100% complete as well Wink Well I suppose they are !

LoL the text on the boxes:

HARDCORE 3D GRAPHICS ACELLERATOR lol Grin

not that Hardcore for it's time to be honest, they were a nice alternative for the budget market, great for games like Quake3 and SystemShock 2 Smiley but they seem to be in great shape Lux Wink very VERY nice find hehe

@ Gamma742

I agree hehe he should use imageshack to resize because people that have modems won't feel that happy Lips Sealed

Though my Laptop has 1920 x 1200 as reso nothing wrong here though lol Grin

st4r4m4m4 is watching your comments  trough a 15" Tongue and thank god it runs 1024x768@85Hz so it quite handles the yob of a 15" but still 1590 px for just the photo is out ot the league.

(luckily its not my main pc, but there might be ppl in a similar situation)

Yeah, Imageshack provides useful clickable Thumbnails for monster-images (also saves 56k users, if some of those are still alive Wink )

Nice cards those were, I still got Boxed (Hercules) Kyro I and Kyro II cards. They showed very impressive performance for their low GPU/Mem clocks and good features.

Too bad they never had the chance to release the Kyro III.

hmm they were good cards for the budget sector they were the best for the budget sector, but they wern't high end like 3dfx's Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP and Voodoo5 5500 AGP hehe.

but they were a good alternative qua features only the drivers wern't that good so they were morely left aside, and the GeForce and Radeon products made thier space.

Sorry for the big picture and thanks for resizing it!

Anyway, yes, they might not have been the most hardcore cards on the market back then, but for sure the most hardcore cards for the low-end cheapy swifty gfx card market!

I'm looking for a tube of Arctic Silver 5 to put on my system, it'll have a Kyro I with 64 MB (pics coming all right, thats my favourite card). I really hope they are complete, but the guy was selling a huge stock, these were brand new for sure.

It might be interesting to do some benchs with my Kyro I, i'll think of it when I'll have my system ready.

Cool cards man. I've got a Hercules Prophet 4000 (32 meg Kyro 1) and two Prophet 4500's (64 meg Kryo II's). All three cards work although I only use one of the 4500 that switch with my V3 when I'm playing with some friends in some older games (Ghost Recon, Return to Castle Wolfenstein).

Didn't know that they had a Kyro II with only 32 megs though, so that's cool. Would like to see what the differences are with the same amount of ram and just comparing the gpu's as far a performance goes with the Kyro I.

Great cards, wish they would have stayed with it but with all the license agreements and what not, it became a mess. Although PVR still remains a huge factor for graphics in the mobile department, there is talks that Intel was interested in using PVR's technologies in it's on board video for their mobo's.

For anyone interested in Kyro's demo's they have put out to show off some of the things they could do, or get updated reference drivers click here. Of course they haven't put anything out lately, but....... http://www.pvrdev.com/pub/PC/extra/index.htm

The reference drivers are newer then the last Hercules drivers available by a couple of revisions.

I used to have a Kyro 2 for the longest time... Cheesy

...yup those cards were SWEET (pretty much the same GPU as Dreamcast - remember that?) Wink

...but all good things come to an end - and in this case the end was a Radeon 9700Pro...my current card! Grin

Actually, the Dreamcast had a PowerVR Series II, while Kyro cards are Series III, but yes, Dreamcast graphics are great, some games easily beat current PS2/Xbox games.
