Title: What in your Main Machine (Non-3Dfx Card)
Post by gamma742 on 11.06.05 at 22:40:32
I'm just looking for a sampling of what you guys are running in your main machine.

Like with me, in my main machine I have a ATI 9800 AIW 256 MB (non-Pro) with a Quantum3D 200SBi to compliment the Radeon.

Now I'm thinking about the new X850 with the RADEON X850 CrossFire Edition 256MB for dual configuration :o

The main machine which runs 24/7 and I do all my work is a P3-700/512MB ram with a V5-5500.

The gaming box in the corner is a P4 2.8C/1gig ram with a 9800pro clocked at/higher then XL speeds. My only regret on the 9800 is it has 128MB of ram instead of 256MB.

It causes the random hitch in Doom3 when entering a large area as textures are moved from main ram to video.

I have been thinking of updating too but frankly I see no new games that are of any interest and refuse to purchase HL2 due to dumb "internet required" game unlocking.

Since I swap Video Cards very often in my main Rig for testing, I'll just take the fastest one I got :

Athlon64 3700+ So754
1024MB PC400 DDR
ATI Radeon 9800pro 128MB AGP

Since I play alot less than I used to, I see no reason to upgrade and buy a faster one.

What I don't like about modern Video Cards is their noise level (annoying) and (most important) their power consumption, therefor there'll be no SLI or Xfire for me (System is running 24/7, don't want to add anything that drives the energy bill too far up since it's already a bit high as it is ;) )

Radeon 9800 pro (256mb) with a 5500 pci  ;D

I see no reason to be thinking of upgrading at the moment as I'm still very pleased with the performance of the 9800 @ 460 core\380 mem. I am running the newer games like Doom3, Half-life 2, The Chronicles of Ridd
*ck, Far Cry, UT 2004, etc. at 1152 x 864 with very high game settings and get great fps

Like gdonovan, my most used pc is still my 5500 system which has around 120 mb of my older favourite games on it  ;D

My next pc will definately have some type of ati crossfire configuration as I have vowed to never own anything produced by Nvidia  ;)

btw, The Chronicles of Ridd*ick is a most excellent game and I would highly recommend it to any FPS fan, IMHO after Half-life 2 it's been the most enjoyable game I've played in the last year or so  ;)

My main PC is a PIII running at 600MHz with 256MB of SDRAM memory and a basic CD reader. It's got a Voodoo4 4500 PCI, a Sound Blaster Audigy and a 9,5GB disk in it. Since I don't play "new" games, it's more than enough for games like Diablo I and II, Unreal, Quake II and III, HL and so on.

Then my old gaming station, a PII at 233MHz with 128MB SDRAM, 3,5GB disk. I'm looking for A V3 300 PCI to put in it and a SB AWE 64 Gold.

Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) w/ ATI Silencer Rev.1

not high end but i do not need high end graphic cards in my main rig...i can spend money for things which are more useful ;)

but i'm thinking about a gf6...maybe a 6800gt when the g70 is released...

Main box AMD 2.8 OC'd to 3100, Gig ddr 3200 and ATI 9600 XT (256 meg) with XP SP2. I don't have Doom 3 or HL2, but so far the only two games that have slowed down my card is Farcry and MOH Pacific Assault (Pearl Harbor scene on the .50 cal- game slowed down as more and more shots were fired with more and more planes coming in - had to keep that saved game just so I can go back to it once in a while and get a good laugh). Other then that, seems to work just fine for me, don't see a reason to upgrade yet.

as my sig suggests.

I've also just fitted an Arctic Cooling Rev 3. silencer to my 9500 PRO.
380(clock)/330(mem) up from 275/270.

Half-Life 2 @ 1280x1024, 6xAA, 16xAF, and over 90fps.  ;D  Incredible game! So much flexibility to the Source engine!  There's loads I can do with it! :)

hehe, just as I thought there won't be any Game that would outmax a Radeon 9800pro 128MB, Battlefield II Demo comes along *g*

True slideshow at High Detail, this Game will require a much more powerful Card and 256MB Video RAM.

(awesome game thou, very addictive)

Any links available? I fancy punishing my 9500 PRO into some serious "slow-mo" work.
Just to bring me back down to reality from the impressive results I get from it in HL2.

Also, are there any trailers for the game?

So my X800XT PE should do fine with the dual OpteronDP 244's ?
Hence that BF2 an OpenGL app is, the most OpenGL apps support Dual CPU aka Dual core.

I wonder if WinXP64bit would be a better idea for BF2 any ideas?

AFAIK it is a DirectX 9.0c Game (Direct3D only), not sure if they implemented OpenGL at all.

The X800PE should do perfectly fine though (max Detail), no problems if equipped with 256MB.
