Title: Clever marketing or something more (*56K warning*)
Post by procerus on 22.11.02 at 19:00:20
Here's a gif (credit to Priesh) of a video that was shown at Comdex by nVidia just before Mr. Huang (nVidia CEO) presented the NV30 aka GeForce5.

So is this clever marketing or is there really 3dfx technology in the chipset?  ???

Will it win over the last few 3dfx diehards?  Or will it merely alienate the fanatical nVidiots?  ;D

Hm, I for my part will never buy any NVidia built Hardware...

It's name, or claims about its origin don't quite matter to me ;D

Does this mean that there are no specs and technical details from 3dfx-cards available? I remember that ati realeased the specs for the old rage based chipsets to support the linux-community.Even if nvidia stopped support for those chipsets they could at least realease all this informations about the old cards. Or are there some secrets in the chipsets they took over to their geforce family after thei took over 3dfx?

RAGEgards ;D

No.  It's true.  nVidia have done everything they can to scupper the 3dfx legacy up to now.  And this "fx" thing is a cynical marketing move.  For all that some of 3dfx's most competent engineers went over to nVidia.  Their motives were financial and they gave and give no acknowledgement to their origins.

All I know is that I still get emotional (about graphics cards for heaven's sake!).

I do use an nVidia card.  It has never stirred me.  It does a job like the flush on a toilet does.  It has no passion, no heart, no particular identity.  I am a motorcyclist and if nVidia is Honda then 3dfx were Ducati.

I miss 3dfx.  :(

I can hardly imagine in how much trouble NVidia must be, to resort to this kind of marketing ::)

Anyway, a ridiculous move.

Well with the price of some of the new radeons , i think they will get strangled soon . And it serves them right , killing voodoo support on  os s and games very underhanded . But with nvidia and microsoft in bed , what can you do , just look at the x-box .

Hehe, I just remembered :

I do have one of their Cards, a GeForce 256 32MB DDR.

Yet, I have never put it into any of my machines, ever since it arrived.

Now, now!  I think turning to the Mac is a real sign of desparation!  ;)  ;D
