Found a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP!
03.08.13 at 08:29:30
Friday i found a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP!
When i was the card, sadly in a plastic bag, i saw the shape of it and it reminded me the shape of the one i had at the time, and it was written on top front: 1999 STB Technologies. Then turning the card around, i saw the 3DFX logo.
Tested it, it work fine! But one thing bother me: The heatsink (which just look like the one i had at the time on mine) doesn't have push-pins holes it usually have, it seem to be put in place with a thermal glue or something. Is it normal for some to be like glued in place like that?

Yes, almost all, if not all voodoo3 cards, have their heatsink glued on, just like voodoo4 and 5

Most Voodoo 3 3000 AGP's have both push-pins and stick (adhesive tape) together to the chip. However, some AGP's are only glued and don't have push-pins (or holes for them) at all.
I have one 3000 AGP which is probably like yours:
3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
. It shows 'Made in China' and has an orange capacitor near the AGP-connector.

exactly, no pin holes on the heatsink.
at first i thought someone changed the heatsink, but it doesn't seem like it now.
I remember the Voodoo3 3000 AGP i had at the time (around 2000-2001), had those pins on the heatsink.

I confirm, I had during the last 10 years more than 30 v3 3000 cards (a lot of them I still own) and almost all had/have pushpins.
Those using the "glue" method seems to come mostly from OEM systems (Dell, Compaq, etc).

they should be, the only difference between the different voodoo3 cards is the amount of memory and the clockspeed.
voodoo3 2000, 3000 and 3500 all have the same core and amount of ram, only difference being what they have extra.
but an OEM voodoo3 3000 @ 166Mhz with 16MB SGRAM is just as fast as a NON-OEM voodoo3 3000 @ 166Mhz with 16MB SGRAM.
there are ofcourse voodoo3 cards that are OEM only, but you can't really compare them to non-oem parts. The velocity 100, 200, Voodoo3 1000 and I'm sure I've forgotten 1 or 2, are all less then the normal voodoo3 cards.
