Obi has some personal issues, he was here again a few days ago, under the name Gold Leader, but it didn't work out.

Here's the background, nothing secret about it :

He asked me ~2 weeks ago if it was okay for him to return to this Forum.
After he apparently did quite well over at VA for about a year, I naturally saw no problem with that, except that I gave him a few requirements and advices to avoid repeating old problems known here in the past.

These were quite simple and still today I'm sure it could have worked out.

Requirements :
- no 'special treatment' from Admin side, regardless of his situation - in essence be a Forum Member like any other
- he has to solve typical issues or small conflicts by himself (like everybody else does)

Advisory :
- initially take a slow and rather low profile approach to avoid reopening old resentiments or reservations by numerous other Users
- reduce or avoid excessive StarWars talk/metaphers, as it was found quite confusing by numerous users including myself from time to time

He agreed and rejoined the Forum a few days later.

Here's what happened, however :
- easily became record poster (posting rate) within days
- at times filled almost the entire Subforum as latest poster all alone
- went into what I call "old scheme" again after 11 days due to a tiny and actually mispercieved critique against him
- started sending me PM asking for support and enforcement of Forum rules that actually did not exist
- before being clearly told that he did not have a valid point and plain overreacted again he had deleted his account
- I therefor responded to his request placed here over at VA via PM (due to his account here gone)
- I made clear that his reaction was uncalled for, did not make any sense and explained him that he bascially busted all requirements and advisory I had given him as prerequisites for successfully participating in this Forum. Additionally, I made it absolutely clear that he would not get any 'special support' from me
- After a short exchange of PM, however, he insisted and elaborated that I woudn't do my Admin job right by denying him a special status
- As he refused to accept the plain facts or any other argument I gave him, I did the only thing left to do : make a clean cut and ban him for lifetime.

Lessons learned :
- even if he's a nice & good guy by default, the sad fact remains that he remains too unstable for continued, trouble free participation
- he makes all attempts to get and enforce special Admin protection and support, which I have to absolutely deny (I tried that last time and it did not work out, and believe me, I tried hard)

In short :
I offered him an easy deal and he busted it hard, even after me camly trying to talk better sense into him (go find an Admin busy with other things in life who does that - after all that already happened).

I still don't have anything against him, in my books he remains a good guy.
However, when I'm forced to choose between fair Forum rules with good trouble-free experience for everyone and the special private (time-intensive) support of a single person... I know what my choice has to be.
I knew this could have potentially happened anytime but I and Co-Admin were surprised just how fast things deteriorated this time.

-----------------------
I think that this covers the last 2 weeks out of my perspective in a nutshell.
Others that Obi contacted via PM will have more details, of course it is left to them whether they elaborate about it or keep that private.

This explanation was good enough for me. OB1 was a good contributor to the message board in the days of old. I noticed under gold leader it wasn't the same Obi. Some of his last post here seem almost confrontational. I respect the decisions of the Admins/Moderators, They are the reason I am still here and I am proud to have this place as my home page. I appreciate their hard work (I know I don't say that enough), and enjoy spending my leisure time here with my 3Dfx friends.

I do wish Obi well and sad that it didn't work out for him after his 3 year hiadus.

Friendly regards,
Bob~

Even though we ran into one or two issues at one point, we sorted everything out, he is a nice person, but maybe needs some help with some issues like aforementioned, he's not a bad person, and quite friendly to be honest, I think he sometimes suffers from things though, maybe from the past, or maybe something else. I hope he will be okay, I think so.

If you read this Obi, I don't have any bad feelings towards you whatsoever, I just wanted to post in this thread as well, to let people know that we did sort things out, and don't have any issues, because it went wrong in one or two threads, and others might have seen that too.

I was very sad when I got here after some time and I found his PM in my inbox where he asked me how I am doing and said hello. I was not able to reply to him because his account didn´t exist anymore.

Obi if you read this: You can talk to me anytime if you want! I will go online on skype soon, maybe we can have a chat! Smiley

I just found out that Obi has sold his complete collection (again), including his 5000, and he's once and for all gave up on 3dfx, including 3dfx forums.

Threads are over at VoodooAlert.

Yeah, that would be the 4th time, if I'm remember correctly. I'd say that in less than a month he'll start "collecting" again and this year we'll see at least one more sale from him.

It's called benefits. You usually just get a % of what you used to earn.

I haven't posted lately, mainly due to issues I've been having with my ex but generally watch the board when I can.

However most people on here have it right. I've had some extensive pm's with him in the past about taking things to serious and things in general and he is a nice person.

There are some things that he does need to work out though. Hopefully in time, he'll get them worked out so I wish him the best of luck. In the meantime though, Falcon did his best and the outcome is something that Obi will will have to deal with.

Jand.
