Title: Voodoo4 4500 PCI driver Post by LuxKiller65 on 01.12.04 at 21:19:33
Which driver should I use:
1) the "original" from 3dfx 2) AmigaMerlin driver and Mesafx or something like that ? BTW, I'd just like to play Diablo II for the moment. THx, 'cause I dunno... |

Depends on your O.S. ::)
If WinXP - Amigamerlin ;) If Win9x - anything you like (I'd still use the win9x equivalent Amigamerlin driver though!) ;D Hope that helps! 8) |

@LuxKiller65,
If your intending to use a windows 9x operating system, consider also the last released 3dfx driver (1.04.01), it's fast, very stable and plays many games 8) Windows 2000 or XP use the Amigamerlin 3.1 R1, it's simply the best ;) |

I don't know if you got my same problem. The last Voodoo4/5 drivers' install program works fine, until it tries to install the "3dfx Tools" and says it can't register some files. After that, if I say "Ignore", everything goes okay, but I ain't got the 3dfx tabs in "Properties -> Settings -> Advanced"!
It's like all the files are correctly written on my hard disk, but it can't "register" the 3dfx Tools' DLLs files. I do get 32 bit and 1024x768 and all of that, but the control panels aren't where they should be (to get Glide settings and stuff like that). Do you know what's the matter? Because I tried reinstalling the drivers 15 times yesterday and every time the same problem occurs (even with the Amigamerlin, as the 3dfx Tools are the same). LuxKiller65 -> :-/ |

Yes just press 'ignore' several time. After the diver is done installing reboot the PC. Now 3dfx tools is "dead" whatever you do you cannot acces it. Install the driver again (do not uninstall the previous install), it should not give the error anymore. When the installation is done you must reboot and now 3dfx tool should work.

Okay, I'll try it right now. Can I delete the install directory after everything works? Is it possible that I get the messages even after reinstalling it just because I run the install from an USB key?
Thanks for your replies! |

Dont know, you better install it from Harddisk. Could cause you less problems I think. You can indeed delete any installation file when ready. :D good luck

Hell, why must I always have problems with installing drivers?
What have I done wrong to this f****** world? :P Doesn't work even when done as you said! I think I'll just sleep and not think about it and then try tomorrow! ;D |

The Voodoo4 4500 PCI, even if PCI, should be the main graphic card in my PC, since there's only an integrated ATI chip in the motherboard.
I erased my HD before installing the Voodoo (I can do it in less than half an hour, it's only 10GB ^^'). So maybe it's because it's got conflitcts with the ATI (which is 2D+3D) I can try to erase it, but I think the problem comes just from the OS. I'll try every possible combination of what you said here... might work someday... When I install the Tools the first time and it doens't work, should I restart or just say no and repare it right away (that's what Falconfly suggested in another topic)? THX, alletya know! |

My PC is pretty strange... is there a prog to find out what motherboard is used?
I thought to disable the ATI (which doesn't run properly anyway) I just had to delete it from the hardware panel... Well, I'll go and check the BIOS (I'm newbie, I dunno anything about these stuffs). :P |

Thanks FalconFly!
;) It's worse than I had expected: I used the program to remove every driver concerning 3dfx, I reinstalled the drivers and the tools, I didn't restart and I tried the repair option. The same damn problem occurs. If I try to repair from the folder in "c:\program files\3dfx", created by the tools' program, it says that the *.cab file can't be found. This *.cab file is found in the zipped file from where the drivers are installed. If this is a Windows 2000\XP related problem, isn't there a way to avoid getting this message? Because before reinstalling Windows 2000, the tools installed porperly without error messages. I'm thinking of a Service Pack (SP) or DirectX related problem, but it's strange that nobody tried to fix it, as it seems that many people are receiving this message under 2000\XP. :'( |

That's the info about the MoBo. If that's not the right screenshot, let me know, I'll post the other I took.

I followed the instructions and still it doesn't work...

Title: Re: Voodoo4 4500 PCI driver Post by LuxKiller65 on 07.12.04 at 16:36:20
It's a Compaq Deskpro EN Series SFF (Small Front Factor, which is only related to the case's size). It has a 10 MB hard disk, a CD reader (no DVD nor burner), 256 SDRAM of memory, 2 PCI slots (I put the Voodoo in one and the Sound Blaster Audigy in the other).
It's got then an updated BIOS, running under Windows 2000 Professional French version. I think this is it... but anyway I guess it's only a software problem, not related to my hardware (because before formatting, the tools worked fine). :P |
Title: Re: Voodoo4 4500 PCI driver Post by LuxKiller65 on 07.12.04 at 20:59:41
Actually, I tried to install the drivers (the 3dfx original ones) before and separately from the tools and...
... it worked... Sorry for wasting your precious time and thanks for the help you tried to give me! ;) |

What's wrong with my English?
Or do you need me to write in German? I meant, I installed the 3dfx drivers from the control panel, rebooted, installed the 3dfx tools (no error message) and the rebooted one last time. |
