Title: Banshee II
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 12.09.05 at 17:13:42
Hi all, I was wondering if there is or was an Avenger based card with a real Banshee II bios, since that the Avenger aka Voodoo3/Velocity was named Banshee II.

Does anyone have a clue or a better explanation about this one?

Thanx ya all!

May The Force Be With You All!

Friendly Regards,

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hmm, don't know.
Maybe that some very old Voodoo 3 prototypes have a Banshee II bios :?

People in the press called it that, 3dfx called it Avenger.

I do have several V3 cards that use modified Banshee bios but they all state "Avenger" in the bios files.

comparison of the bios strings

banshee bios string: VGA BIOS - Version 1.00.01-SD
avenger prototype bios string: VGA BIOS - Version H4 0.26-SD
v3 bios string: Voodoo3 3000 BIOS - Version 1.00.01-SD

if you compare these strings you will see that the avenger prototype bios files have the bios string of the banshee! it is not a secure proof but a little hint ;)

I fail to see more then a tenuous connection- Since chances are the same people who wrote the Banshee bios wrote the V3 and V4 bios they would of course use a system for identifying the bios files that would follow a logical pattern.

it is just a little bit...but you cannot deny the connection!
btw: the v3 bios was written by some programmers of elpin systems! but since vsa-100 had there own ones!

Sure I can- No one I ever met from 3dfx ever called Avenger aka Voodoo 3 a Banshee II. Matter of fact they went out of their way to call it Avenger or Voodoo 3.

Only some people in *the gaming press* called it a Banshee II.

The same people worked on the bios, of course they used the same structure just like cars all use tires that are round.

The press tended to use it in a disparaging manner.
