Power VR may be coming back for 2007.

Intel is licensing the Power VR core. Read it here, looking up some things on the old Kyro cards. Looks like Intel is pushing back into the video card schene with integrated graphics for up coming Vista.

This is kind of old though, it was posted in July, but still thought it was worth reading. It does mention that new cards might be coming by the end of this year, begining of 2007.

This was released on Oct 2nd, this year.

Hmm...it's still pretty vague as a 'maybe'...

Current PowerVR stuff is geared toward Mobile phones and palmtop devices such as offerings from HP and others. Wink

Just a thought here...(and this is VERY speculative) Grin

Perhaps M.S. is releasing 'Vista Embedded' for palmtop devices - just like they have XP Embedded now. Shocked

And to that end the new Vista Embedded will need hardware acceleration on palmtop devices. Cheesy

Remember folks - just a theory for now! Roll Eyes

Yeah, but then it does make sence though so who knows? I think it'd be grade if they actually made it back into card form though. The Kyro was one of the best cards out there, at least in my opinion, for it's day. I really think had they not had to deal with the licensing issues that the Kyro brand would have given ATI and Nvidia a run for there money. Who knows, that still might be the case. The companies not dead by any means and with Intel picking up some of their licensing for their new chip, I'm hoping it gets interesting. Intel is trying to combat AMD with the ATI buy out and I don't thing Nvidia is the way to go with them so could be this is there ticket.

Trying to find any info on this has been a major pain though, can't find much on this. I would like to see the Kyro's come back, if not in name at least in some other form.

Kyro and PowerVR was one of the classic brands! Cheesy

I once had a Kyro2 - although it got sold when I went with my Radeon instead. Roll Eyes

Surprisingly, I STILL have my original PowerVR PCx2 accelerator card (direct competitor to Voodoo 2) - even though I had to replace the capacitors on the card after the old 'cheap-tastic' ones EXPLODED!!! Shocked

(yeah they really went BANG!) Shocked

And it still works! Grin

I wish 'em luck in their return...err, if they return. Tongue
