Voodoo Graphics in DOS
17.01.05 at 18:10:14

After years of fighting to keep to a single gaming PC I have finally given in and am building a DOS box.  My new GeForce 6800 GTS doesn't support refresh rates other than 60Hz in DOS so I have bought a KVM switch and have built up my old P3 600 as a DOS games machine.

I want to play some of the DOS glide classics that never even made the transition to Voodoo2 (games like Blood and Whiplash).  So I have installed my first 3Dfx card, a Diamond Monster 3D, into the machine.  I don't want to install Windows so I'm dual-booting DOS 6.22 and DOS 5.

I assumed that all I needed to run the games on my Voodoo1 was to have the glide2x.ovl file somewhere in my path.  But the games complain that they lack a "dll" and tell me to download the files from 3Dfx.com!!!

What files do I need where in order to run a Voodoo Graphics card in DOS?  ???

Thanks.  Smiley

I have similar plans as soon as I get my 100SB from Chosen_One. My plans are start with DOS 6.22 Then a Win98SE upgrade as I still have win 3.1 and on the upgrade search I point it to disk 1 on the floppy. This way I have DOS and Win98SE, with DOS only games I can launch them from a short cut from within 98 exiting to DOS and on exiting the games it restarts windows. This keeps all the CDRom, Sound Card & mouse drivers on the dosstart.bat file.

Curious, What do you need DOS 5 for?

***Update***

I've got Screamer Rally running perfectly in DOS glide on my Monster 3D!!!  So it's a configuration issue specifically relating to the 3Dfx version of Blood.  No surprise there since it was always a beta patch that frustratingly always crashes my Voodoo2 just as you think you've got it working.  I will get it working on my Voodoo Graphics.  It just needs a bit of fiddling with.  Wink

And gamma?  I don't need DOS 5 for anything.  I also don't need QEMM and NetRoom and 386MAX and UMBPCI.SYS and so on.  I just play with it all for fun.  AFAIK there never was a game that needed more than 610K of Conventional Memory and Himem and EMM386 give me more than that.  I'm just nostalgic for the bad old days, is all!  Grin

And, man, do I envy you that 100SB!
