Well...
I've seen many consoles so far and several games that were told to be the best ones existing for them.
Looking at them alone, I basically saw toys for kids.
Looking at them in comparison with a PC... they lose
big time, across all fields in my book.
Mediocre and slow Graphics, very poor sound, absolutely catastrophic human interface.
Simplistic Games (mainly limited by poor interface) I've last seen in that low complexity on PC's in the 386/C64 era.
They remind me of the Stand-Alone Coin-Up's found in gaming halls back in the old days.
I don't know if all that will change one day, but as of today, I wouldn't even take a batch of the latest consoles for free - they'd just take up precious room.
Everything I've seen so far has been a major disappointment, leaving me wonder why - on earth - anyone would settle with such little toys when there are Computers.
(unless one has a favor for such simplistic kid-style Games, then they make perfect sense).
The last time I actually spent some entertaining time on a Console was as a little kid on my GrandMa's Ping-Pong Game (late 70's) and later with a friend's Atari 2600 (early 80's). But these times are over...
long over.
Being technical, a modern Console can do about 10% of what a PC can do - if heavily modified in Software and Hardware (mainly the human interface being brought upto speed) - with PC Hardware and a PC Operating System

In terms of Unit sales, I agree, however.
PC's simply are not for everyone, they're highly complex high-tech machinery, at the very edge of technology.
These advantages can be a disadvantage, if the User is not up to the task of masting the tech.
And that's exactly where Consoles fit in - Power On and Game loaded, ready to go. Give a
small bit of a PC's power at the ease of a washing machine.
But at the end of the day, that's all they do (as of today).
